Chev Need to Knows

2 May 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2 of the 2025 academic year at Chevalier College!

As we embark on this new term, we are filled with enthusiasm and hope for the continued growth and success of our students.

At the beginning of the year, we encouraged our students to ‘Work Hard, Persist, and Take Their Opportunities in 2025’. These guiding principles have been the cornerstone of our educational journey, and we are proud of the dedication and resilience our students have shown thus far.

This week, as students and staff gathered in the John Fahey Centre as one, on Tuesday morning, we reflected on an inspiring quote from Pope Francis:

“Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit; the sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is…life is good when you are happy; but much better when others are happy because of you.”

This profound message reminds us of the importance of living for others and contributing to the happiness of those around us. It aligns beautifully with the MSC (Missionaries of the Sacred Heart) charism which is central to our community at Chevalier College. Living with heart spirituality means embracing compassion, kindness and a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

As our students continue to work hard and seize the opportunities that come their way, we encourage them to remember Pope Francis' words. By being a good person to be around, pleasant, and a good friend, they can make life much happier for others. Bringing their best selves to every interaction not only enriches their own lives but also fosters a supportive and joyful community.

The staff are excited to see what Term 2 will bring. Together, let us continue to nurture an environment where our students can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in this journey.

Warm regards,

Greg Miller

Principal

Drop-off and Pick-up locations - REMINDER

We have observed an increase in parents/carers using the boom gate area at Gate 4 on Charlotte Street, the car park near McGrath Hall and the 'No Stopping' zones on Charlotte Street as drop off areas. This is causing interference with traffic flow and bus movement and poses a significant safety risk.

  • Please use the allocated drop-off and pick-up areas before and after school.  Pick-up Point A (enter from Moss Vale Road) or Pick-up Point B (enter from Eridge Park Road). Campus map
  • Charlotte Street car parks (including Gate 4, McGrath Hall and John Fahey Centre) should not be used to drop off or pick up students at the beginning or end of a school day. This includes the boom gate area which is not to be used as a turning circle. The boom gates are closed before 9.15am and after 3.00pm.
  • Students should not be dropped off on Charlotte Street before or after school.  'No Stopping' zones are in place and police have advised that they will be enforcing significant penalties.

Thank you for helping to keep our students and community safe by following the correct traffic rules.

Forum - Teens, Mobile Phones and Social Media - Thursday 8 May

This free event marks the beginning of an important conversation in anticipation of upcoming legislation that will ban children under the age of 16 from using social media. We will bring together speakers, host round table discussions, and conduct a Q&A session, providing a space for parents, educators, and community members to start discussing our whole school community response.

This is a crucial first step in preparing for the actions required to respond to this significant change.

📅 Date: Thursday 8 May

🕖 Time: 7.00 – 8.30pm

📍 Location: McGrath Hall, Chevalier College

We may possibly leave the evening with more questions than answers; however, from the College’s perspective, we will be more informed about our role and responsibilities in this most important area, as well as how we can facilitate a process which sees parents and students understand their roles as well.

Come along to exchange perspectives and contribute to the beginning of a community response to this important issue.

College Tote Bag

College tote bags (for Year 11 and 12 senior students only) are now available to purchase from the Chev Shop during normal shop opening hours.  The tote bags cost $40.

Reminder: the tote bag can be used instead of, or in conjunction with, the College backpack. We strongly recommend that if using the tote bag, devices should be in a case, and/or padded bag. The tote will not provide the protection for devices that the backpack does. All Year 11 students must have either the College backpack or tote bag from Week 3, Term 2.
