News from Year Three

Excursion to IMAX and the Melbourne Museum

On Wednesday, our Year 3 students embarked on an exciting excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX Theatre, where they explored exhibits such as the Forest Gallery and an engaging IMAX documentary that complemented their classroom learning in Inquiry this term. Throughout the day, the Year 3s showed respect and responsibility, engaging with the exhibits and representing our school with pride. Even during the return journey (when the train was crowded and seats were scarce!) their positive attitude and cooperation shone through, making the day a memorable and educational experience for all involved!

Assembly

We are so proud of all our Year 3s who presented last week's assembly so well! The fantastic public speaking was a standout. Well done!

Fractions

We are currently learning all things Fractions in Maths!

You can help your child learn about fractions at home by using everyday activities. For example, when cooking, have them measure ingredients like ½ cup of flour or ¼ teaspoon of salt. Cutting up a sandwich or pizza into equal parts can also show how fractions work. Even sharing toys or snacks equally among siblings teaches the idea of dividing things into parts. These simple, real-life experiences make learning fractions easy and fun!

3 Times Tables!

We are trying for automaticity (the ability to perform a task quickly and effortlessly, without conscious thought, due to extensive practice!!) with our 3 times tables! If you would like some flash cards printed, please let us know and we can send them home. 3s will be our focus for most of Term 2.

Maria Ruberto

Coming up are the free parent workshops with Maria Ruberto. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity help support your child’s wellbeing and growth. Tilly and I just got so much out of Maria's PD last term (on a personal and professional level, especially in relation to my own children!)

Maria has been a regular guest on The Imperfects podcasts and is the director and founder of Salutegenics Psychology.

Yirra and her Deadly Dog, Demon

Our novel study this term is a factual recount: Yirra and her Deadly Dog, Demon by Anita Heiss. We have been learning some interesting vocabulary such as whine, squirm and sprawl! Ask your child about the meaning of some of these words and see if they can put them into a sentence!

Mother's Day Morning!

This morning we enjoyed our breakfast with our mums followed by some amazing activities off in our classrooms. Our classroom had portrait painting! It was amazing to see our mums, Aunties and grandparents joining in with the fun.

We also gifted our mums with a special booklet we have been making in class over the past two weeks. Our booklets included a beautiful letter, a fractions flower of reasons why we appreciate our mums, vouchers and many other special things!

Thank you for joining us we appreciate you very much.
