AFL Grade 5 Big Night Out

Leongatha Primary School Grade 5 Students Enjoy Team Bonding at the MCG
Grade 5 students from Leongatha Primary School recently experienced an unforgettable day of excitement, learning, and team spirit as they travelled to Melbourne to watch an AFL game between Carlton and St Kilda at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The outing, organised as part of the school’s focus on building teamwork and school spirit, gave students a firsthand look at one of Australia’s most popular sports in action. With the roar of the crowd, the thrill of the game, and the energy of the stadium, the students were fully immersed in the excitement of elite sport. Carlton emerged victorious on the day, but for the students, the win was only part of the experience.
More than just a day at the footy, the excursion was designed to encourage friendship, cooperation, and shared memories outside the classroom. Teachers and staff were proud to see students displaying respect, responsibility, and enthusiasm throughout the day —core values at Leongatha Primary.
"It was fantastic to see the students enjoying themselves and cheering together. Events like this help them bond not just as classmates but as teammates," said Craig McCaughan the Grade 5 Team Leader.
For many students, it was their first time at the MCG, making the day even more special. Whether they were longtime footy fans or new to the game, all were swept up in the sense of unity that comes from cheering together for a common cause.
The Carlton vs St Kilda match will surely be remembered not just for its sporting excitement, but as a powerful example of how shared experiences can strengthen school community and spirit.
