Little Athletics Clinics
Over the last two weeks the students in Years 2 to 6 participated in an athletics clinic provided by the Little Athletics Program in Schools. The students were shown the correct techniques for the core skills of sprinting, jumping and throwing. They practised the standing start, triple jump and long jump sequence and the shot put and discus swing.
A huge thank you to Rob and Kelly, the coaches who took the sessions, and taught the children some valuable skills which can be transferred to many sports. The children had heaps of fun learning these skills.
District Cross Country
The students had been training for the Monash Heights District Cross Country event during lunch times. 53 children from Years 3 to 6, represented Essex Heights at the Monash Heights District Cross Country event at Mirrabooka Reserve in Blackburn South last Friday, 9 May. They should all be very proud of their efforts, completing the 2km or 3km course.
Overall, we placed 1st for the second year in a row, which was an outstanding result!
Congratulations to those students who placed in the top 20, which qualified them to participate in the Monash Waverley Division Cross Country on Wednesday 28 May.
Thank you to Miss Boles and Miss Kemp for assisting the students. Also, a huge thanks to Joanne Pan, Madeline Wright and Anca Ryan for volunteering to marshal on the track. Your assistance was greatly appreciated!
All the best to the following students who qualified for the Division event:

On May 9th the Year 3 to 6 students who advanced to the next round of District Cross Country competed at Mirrabooka Reserve. It was a day of fun and competition for everyone. The 9/10 age group ran 2km whilst the 11 & 12/13 age groups ran 3km. We all tried our hardest and gave it all we had. I was very proud to receive an outstanding score of 2nd place!
I was so excited to move forward to the next round and compete for Essex Heights. I would like to say a big thanks to Ms Hocking and Miss Kemp for supporting and training us to achieve this result. Also, a huge thanks to all of the parent volunteers who made this day extra special! I had the best time competing and hanging out with my friends and look forward to competing at Monash Division.
Emmeline, Year 6
I competed in the District Cross Country again this year. It was a really fun day hanging out with friends and watching the other races. I came first in my 12/13 year race and I was very proud of my efforts. We were lucky enough to win the Monash Heights District shield for the second year in a row. A special thanks to Ms Hocking and Miss Kemp for all their work.
