Junior School

Year 1

Term 2 has begun with meaningful moments of learning, reflection, and celebration in our Year 1 classroom.  We took time to remember and honour the bravery and sacrifice of our servicemen and women as we learnt about ANZAC Day. We shared thoughtful discussions about what bravery looks like and how we can show gratitude to those who served.

The children completed a directed drawing of “ANZAC Ted”, a special activity that helped bring the story of the ANZACs to life in a creative and age-appropriate way. Each drawing was a unique expression of the children’s understanding and appreciation.

We also put our running shoes to the test during the School Cross Country Run! The Year 1 students showed fantastic enthusiasm and determination as they tackled the course. We were incredibly proud of their effort, sportsmanship, and perseverance. Whether they ran fast or steady, every student gave their best and demonstrated a spirit of encouragement and thankfulness.

We are so proud of how much the students have grown - not just in their learning but in their kindness, resilience, and teamwork. Term 2 is off to a great start!

Year 2

We are so excited to be back for Term 2! The Year 2's have had a wonderful first two weeks back!

To celebrate their hard work and amazing improvement across the term, on the last day of Term 1 we had a pizza party! Students made their own pizzas then enjoyed them for lunch! I'm very proud of how far they have all come and so looking forward to seeing them all grow even more across this term!

To kick off our learning this term, we have begun exploring our new Science topic on 'Sounds Around Us' through creating sounds using different objects from the schoolyard and using ICT programs such as Chrome Music Lab.

Year 3

Year 3 started the term enjoying Maths games - we always have so much fun in our Numeracy sessions!

We learned about marsupials, monotremes and placentals to finish off our biological science and link straight in to our new unit of work on Australia. We learnt about these amazing animals and how most of them are Australian.

ANZAC Day was an important part of our first week of school. We reflected upon the importance of this day and how wonderful our country is thanks to our ANZACs and baked some yummy ANZAC biscuits in the air fryer to commemorate this day. Some of our students chose to attend dawn services and marches on ANZAC Day, including Knox and Jeremy who gave up part of their day off to remember those who have served our country. Lest we forget.

We were so proud of ourselves after trying our best in the Cross Country last week. It was a very long way!

Year 4

In Term 2, students in Year 4 are looking at an inquiry unit for Humanities titled 'What Makes me Special and Unique?'. The overarching theme of this unit is that we are all designed, purposed and made by a loving God who makes no mistakes - meaning he has designed us perfectly!

This week, students were looking at Psalm 139 and listening to this Psalm put to music. This is a beautiful Psalm that King David penned reminding us of God's perfect design for his people. We used verse 14 to create water colour artwords to decorate our classroom.

Year 5

Year 5 have had a great start to term and we have hit the ground running learning about area and perimeter in Maths. We made square meters and experimented with how many students could sit and stand on one square meter. We also did a lot of other estimating and measuring.

In Science we have started learning about the desert and animal adaptations to their environment. In Humanities we are getting right into our topic of bushfires which ties in with our novel study of 47 Degrees by Justin D'ath. Everyone is putting in lots of effort and enjoying our learning.

Year 6

In Year 6, we have the privilege of being given extra responsibility at different times of the year to help out at different events. Last week, Year 6 not only competed in the Cross Country competition, but we also had the honour of marking the course for the rest of Junior School. This means most Year 6 students run the Cross Country race first. We run a 3km course taking us all over the school. It was wonderful to watch the students compete and try their best in what is a very tough race. Ariana and Benji had the honour of coming first in their respective races and achieving age group champion as well. Congratulations to both of them.

When the Year 6's have finished competing they then go out on the course, taking their bags, containing anything they might need like hats, coats, drinks, food etc, and they stand on the course for the next 2 hours. They do this to mark the course for the younger students so they know where to go. They also encourage, cheer, run alongside for a little bit, and generally be a smiling face to help the younger students complete what we all acknowledge is a tough race and not everyone's "cup of tea".

I would just like to thank my Year 6 class for the wonderful job they did this year. Not one of them had to be reminded when to go out and what to do. When their own race had finished I went to round them up to go out and they were all already there, ready and willing to do their bit. I was so proud of them. Thank you, each and everyone of you.

LOTE

This term, the Year 5 and Year 6 students have started learning about countries around the world. The first countries we learned were China, Australia, England, Scotland and Ireland. The students learned the pinyin and the characters for those countries and they practiced making the characters with pin boards.
