Principal's Update

In Memory of Julie Pech

King's College would like to acknowledge the passing of Julie Pech who went to be with the Lord on April 12th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Julie was a former school council member and CRT at King’s College, as well as a dedicated member of Gateway Church, retired manager at Mpower and a passionate supporter of missions in Thailand.

Throughout her illness, Julie remained remarkably strong, and her unwavering faith in God was a true inspiration to all who knew her. Our deepest condolences to Ian, Daniel, Naomi, Heidi, Levi and the wider family.

Farewell to Sue Cressall

After 14 years of faithful service to King’s College, Sue Cressall has decided to make a lifestyle change and will be relocating to Melbourne. This move will allow her to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Sue’s last day with us will be Friday 16 May. We are grateful for Sue’s many years of dedicated service and the valuable contributions she has made to our school community.

ANZAC Day Services

This year, King’s College students proudly represented the College at ANZAC Day services across southwest Victoria, with participation in Dennington, Warrnambool, and Mortlake.

At the Dennington service, Maise, Caitlyn, and Jemima laid a wreath on behalf of King’s College, honouring the courage and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women.

In Warrnambool, a large group of students took part in the community march, including Daisy, Bianca, Blake, Kiara, Nekoda, Josiah, Esther, Lachlan, Grace M, Eli, Grace H, Ruby, Dan, and Jess. As part of the formal service, Lachlan and Grace read In Flanders Fields, while Jess and Dan laid a wreath on behalf of the College. Other students, Ben and Ruth, as well as staff member Andrew Philpot, also joined in official commemorations.

Meanwhile, in Mortlake, Lachlan, Bridie, and Millie represented the College in the local march and laid a wreath as part of the community service.

We extend our thanks to all students and staff who took part in these commemorative events. Your presence was a meaningful contribution to the community and a wonderful tribute to the ANZAC legacy. The photos below capture some of the sentiments and moments from these special services.

Gardening Club

We’re excited to announce the start of a Gardening Club! Our first meeting will be on Monday 5th May at lunchtime to gauge interest and chat about what the club might look like. Everyone is welcome – whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or just curious to get your hands in the soil!

Gardening is a wonderful way to boost wellbeing – it helps us slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the satisfaction of nurturing something and watching it grow. It can reduce stress, improve mood, and give a real sense of purpose and accomplishment. Plus, being outdoors and working with others is great for our physical and mental health.

Our aim is to prepare and maintain the garden beds, planting seasonal veggies and herbs. These will be used in the Food Tech room or taken home by students to enjoy with their families. If you have spare seedlings or cuttings, we would love some donations to help get us started. Every little bit helps!

As we work and grow together, let’s remember the beauty of creation and the joy of caring for it.

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”Genesis 2:15

See you Monday at lunch – let’s get growing!
