It’s been a big term so far for PE with many teams and individual students representing Wales Street across a number of different sporting events.
Firstly a massive congratulations to Hannah Thornton of Grade 6, who recently represented Victoria in the School Sport Australia Soccer Championships! The team placed fourth overall in the competition, which took place in Bendigo.
Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to represent Victoria in a state soccer tournament held in Ballarat. It was an unforgettable experience that I’ll always treasure. Over several days, our team competed against some of the best players from different states across Australia, and every match challenged us to push our limits. The atmosphere was amazing right from the start. The opening ceremony was so exciting.There were pop dancers doing flips, energetic performances, and someone playing the didgeridoo, which gave the event a special Australian feel. It made me feel proud and grateful to be there, wearing the Victorian colours and representing my state. Throughout the tournament, my teammates and I worked incredibly hard. Every game tested our strength, skill, and teamwork, and we supported each other through every moment. Playing against strong teams pushed us to improve and play our best soccer. I love playing for Victoria because it’s such an honour to represent my state and be part of such a dedicated and talented group of players. Putting on that jersey always fills me with pride and motivation to give everything I have on the field. In the end, we finished 4th out of 9 teams, which was a great result considering how strong the competition was. More importantly, I learned so much about teamwork, resilience, and staying positive even when things get tough. The tournament was a mix of fun, hard work, and amazing experiences, and it’s something I’ll never forget. Hannah 6A
Unfortunately two popular events won’t take place this year, the first being the Wales Street Swimming Carnival. Due to a number of other school events (Parent/Teacher interviews, whole school swimming intensives) and a lack of availability at Northcote Pool, sadly it will not be possible for us to hold our school swimming carnival this year.
This event is run with a dual purpose, allowing students to represent their House Team: Clyde, St David, Wales or Speight as well as giving our more successful students the chance to go on and swim for Wales Street in the Northcote District Swimming competition early the following year. With both these factors in mind a 2026 date has been booked, Wednesday 11th February 2026.
All students from grades 4-6 will be eligible to enter the event, however they must be able to swim 50m unassisted. With the extra lead up time students can now get their goggles on and start training for next year!
Our District Inter-school Triathlon has been cancelled due to local council restrictions on bike riding on the ovals at McDonnell Park, (behind Northcote Pool). The Northcote District is currently in negotiations with Darebin City Council to ensure this fantastic event can take place in 2026 and beyond.

Wales Street has also had teams competing in Division and Regional Tennis, Division Cricket and our gr 3 and 4 students participating in Hockey clinics.
Well done to all our students who have represented Wales Street in each of these events with great sportsmanship and school pride, it’s been fantastic watching you give it your all and have fun being part of the action!
