Grade 2 Excursion to Healesville Sanctuary

As part of our Unit of Inquiry, Living things depend on habitats to meet their needs, the Grade 2 students visited Healesville Sanctuary to explore how Australian animals survive and thrive in their natural environments.

During the excursion, students inquired into the different types of habitats and discovered how each animal’s features and behaviours help it to meet its needs. Our guide, shared her deep knowledge of Australian wildlife and taught us the Indigenous names of many animals, helping us make meaningful connections between people, culture, and the natural world.

Students demonstrated the Learner Profile attributes of being Inquirers and Knowledgeable as they asked thoughtful questions and shared their observations. They also showed Caring and Respectful attitudes towards the animals and the environment.

The excursion was an engaging and hands-on learning experience that deepened our understanding of how all living things depend on their habitats to survive.
