Celebrating Student Success

Ethics Olympiad

Two teams comprising our BEAM students in Years 7 and 8 competed in the 2025 Ethics Olympiad and finished as strong performers - with recognition as Most Improved Team across the entire event. This is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the teams' growth, teamwork, and preparation.

Both teams also received Honourable Mentions from the judges - recognition awarded only to teams who demonstrated impressive ethical reasoning, clear communication, and collaborative thinking. These results reflected our students' hard work of preparing for the cases, the thoughtful conversations, and their support for one another.

Congratulations to Jensen W, Thomas K, Zander E, Lucas A, Luke P, Lukas I, Kristian S, Angus P, Francesco L, Karl V - and thank you to Mentor, Brenda McCullagh for her guidance.

STEM Racing Victorian State Finals

We had four teams represent the College at the STEM Racing State Finals in October - Year 7’s Hyper Axle and RapidX, Year 8 team Valiant and combined Year 8 and 10 team, Vitality. Victoria is the most competitive region in the world in the competition, so it was fantastic for our teams to be competing.

Across three days, teams were judged by industry experts for their deliverables in engineering, marketing, branding and project management, as well as their exhibition booth.

Congratulations to team Vitality, who were awarded State Champions in the Professional Senior Class. They will progress to the National Finals next year for the chance to represent Australia at the 2026 World Finals. All the best to the boys as they strive for continued excellence in the upcoming competitions!

“The STEM Racing State Finals was a great experience that culminated after much hard work throughout the year. At the event, we had many activities and interviews to keep us busy. We had to set up our trade display to showcase our team, complete eight races down a 20m track, as well as practising and preparing for two interviews about our team. The event was a great opportunity to collaborate with students from other schools who shared similar interests and provided a memorable week of excitement.” Ren P, Year 8 (Team Vitality)

"I was a team member of Hyper Axle at the State Finals. My team and I raced our STEM Racing car down a track. The thrill accompanied the race, I cannot express! The preparation for the competition began early this year. The preparation includes: collecting sponsors, designing/manufacturing a car and creating a trade display. The opportunity to compete has taught be invaluable life skills that cannot be taught in classrooms." Luca C, Year 7 (Hyper Axle)

Spring Music Concert

Our Spring Music Concert was a wonderful celebration of hard work and collaboration, featuring student performances from both campuses. The evening showcased a diverse range of ensembles, including the Drum Line, Junior Band, College Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble, Vocal Group, Harmony Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the Year 10 Rock Band.

Throughout the night, students confidently introduced each item, highlighting the strong sense of ownership and pride they have developed in their musical achievements. The concert also provided an opportunity for us to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of our Year 12 students thanking them for their many years of active participation and service in the Music Department.

"I really enjoy the community between people in the ensembles. Everyone gets along and we all have a good time performing together." Oliver H, Year 11

"My favourite part of the Spring Music Concert was playing in front of an audience and dealing with the pressure. When there are many people watching, you think that it is going to be very hard and you get worried - but it was actually very fun and a good experience for me as it was my first time playing in front of an actual audience. It was a very good experience and I liked it a lot." Lachlan P, Year 7

"I always look forward to every concert at St Bede's, as they are great opportunities for me to get more and more experience performing in front of people." Blake M, Year 11

"One of the biggest highlights from the Spring Music Concert was performing as part of the drumline on snare. The energy on stage and hearing the whole band come together after all our rehearsals was an awesome feeling. I really enjoyed the teamwork and coordination it took to stay in time with everyone. It pushed me to focus, listen carefully, and keep consistent rhythm under pressure." Blake S, Year 10

We extend our sincere gratitude to the families, friends and staff who supported the concert and our young musicians.

We now look forward to our next major event — our inauguralAnnual Christmas Show —to be held on the evening of Thursday 4 December at our Mentone Campus. We warmly invite all members of the College Community to join us for this festive celebration of music!

ACCent On Music Concert

Every three years, the ACCent on Music concert brings together student musicians from the thirteen member schools of the Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC) for a spectacular evening of collaborative performance. This year’s concert was held at Hamer Hall, following a series of rehearsal days where students from across the ACC refined their performances and worked together towards a shared goal.

St Bede’s College was proudly represented by students performing in the Drum Line, Rock Band, Senior and Junior Choirs, Intermediate Stage Band, Guitar Ensemble, and the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Concert Bands. The evening was a true celebration of teamwork, talent, and the joy of shared music-making.

" I was lucky enough to be a part of the ACCent on Music performance at Hamer Hall. I really enjoyed the connections I was able to make with a variety of students from other schools. It was incredibly interesting to hear about the different dynamics and cultures at other Victorian Catholic schools. Everyone there, in every ensemble, was a friendly face that were and amazing community to be a part of." Oliver H, Year 11 - Senior Choir

"ACCent on Music was a great event. Playing with many other talented musicians whilst also practicing and working with them all to perform an amazing piece was a great opportunity. I personally gained a lot from the experience, meeting other trumpet players. The highlight was playing in Hamer Hall, in a spectacular night." Adam H, Year 9 - Intermediate Concert Band

"Performing at Hamer Hall was great fun and an awesome experience to learn and practice playing in front of big crowds." Jack G, Year 10 - Guitar Ensemble

Congratulations to all our students who took part in this outstanding event - and to all the dedicated staff in our Music Department, expertly led by Laura McCormick.
