Year 5/6

Year 5/6 Cluster News
HOME INQUIRY:
HOME INQUIRY:
Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.
Mathematics: We are aiming to learn all our multiplication facts up to x12 by the end of the year. If your child can recall all of them, they can switch over to their division facts.
Ideas to practice: You may like to create flash cards or skip count aloud with your child to help support their learning with this.
Inquiry: We have begun our business unit, as well as continuing to explore the features and techniques of advertising. Students are now in their groups and have selected their business product. Conversations at home about how their groups discussions are going and regular check ins, as we increase momentum in the unit would be beneficial to support their collaboration.
Please let the teachers know if you child needs support in class.
Year 6 Graduation: Please save the date the 26th of November.
We are finalising details for the Graduation Dinner at Dimples, Tea Tree Gully Golf Course on Wednesday, November 26th. This is a wonderful night to honour and share with our Year 6 families! More information will be available soon.
Business Unit:
Some groups are looking to purchase items online for their business projects.
Please ensure careful attention is given to ordering from Australian-based suppliers so that products arrive on time. Some websites like Temu, cannot guarantee delivery within the required timeframe.
We are unable to manage or place orders on behalf of the groups.
If you feel confident supporting students with this process, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
All purchases will be reimbursed by each business group who have received $80 from the school.
Current and Upcoming Learning
Reader’s Workshop: Students will be using Reader’s Workshop as an opportunity to read different texts that will inform their understanding of advertising techniques and we will also have time to enjoy free choice reading, to continue to foster their love of reading.
Writer’s Workshop: We continue to explore poetry and Ballards, examining how poetic devices are used in advertising. We are continuing our study of writing techniques commonly found in advertisements.
Mathematics: Students continued to revise their knowledge of the four operations. This will be beneficial when students begin to record their business expenses. Over the next few weeks, we will spend time retrieving our statistics and data knowledge and incorporating this into our advertising and business unit, where some groups may conduct surveys and collect data in relation to a product or logo design.
Inquiry: We are well underway into our inquiry into How ‘Business uses structure to make decisions’, which is the transdisciplinary theme of ‘How we Organise Ourselves’. We will run this alongside the inquiry: Media influences the way we think and view the world which is in the transdisciplinary theme of ‘How we Express Ourselves’.
