'Speak with Power' Workshop for our Senior Students
This week, our senior students took part in the first of their “Speak with Power” workshops with Ron Thomas (Mr T) a - dynamic program designed to build confidence, communication, and public speaking skills.
Across a series of energising sessions this term, Ron is guiding students through the essentials of formal speech-making - from understanding structure and crafting meaningful messages, to mastering expression, pace, and the power of well-timed humour. As Ron reminds them, public speaking isn’t just about standing up and talking - it’s about connecting, leading, and making words matter.
During their first session, students enjoyed a fun pirate-themed warm-up before tackling an impromptu one-minute speech. Audience members took on feedback roles, helping presenters reflect on elements such as clarity, delivery, and those little “umms” that can creep in.
Ron encourages every student to speak from the heart, choosing topics that inspire passion and purpose — the true ingredients of an unforgettable speech.
Public speaking is more than a school skill; it’s a life skill that will serve our students well in every setting — from classrooms to future workplaces. With more sessions to come, excitement is building, and we can’t wait to hear what these young speakers have to say next!
