Writing from the Year 4s

The Year 4s have started exploring Narrative writing again this term with a focus on capturing the readers’ attention. One way we can do this is by evoking an emotional response.

This means making our reader FEEL something as they read.

Here are some fabulous examples, can you guess the emotion?

My voice was shaky; my hands were sweaty because I had to speak in front of the whole class! Marvelee 4C

EMOTION: Nervous

I looked at her, the prettiest girl in my class. I didn’t have the courage to ask her if she wanted to be my friend. I blushed. She was funny, pretty and lovely.

Anonymous 4C

EMOTION: Love struck

The teacher screamed at me. I kept my head down and tried not to cry. I felt my cheeks getting hotter and my hands were shaking. Then I let it all out. Hot tears dripped down my face, and everyone was staring at me as I sat down.

Sophia 4C

EMOTION: Embarrassed

I sat there, swinging on my chair, going from side to side. I had a clank look on my face. Simon 4C

EMOTION: Bored

She had her chin up high with a grin on her face like she was planning an evil plan.

Diya 4C

EMOTION: Smug

My eyes lit up with fire. No one had given me my 3rd place ribbon for the 100m sprint down at District Athletics. All my hard-work and nothing to show for it! I felt like punching a brick wall.

Will 4C

EMOTION: Anger

Waste Free Wednesday

At Deer Park West Primary School, every Wednesday the school participates in Waste Free Wednesday. The students are encouraged to bring a lunch box with NO RUBBISH for both recess and lunch. This is a great way to reduce the amount of waste we create in order to make the earth healthier.

Please assist your child/children in doing this by taking items out of their packets before coming to school.

Thank you,
