JUNIOR XCOUNTRY/ATHLETICS
WHEN: Friday 5th of December, 2025
Grade Prep, 1 and 2 students only.
TIME: 9:30am - 11am (recess and weather dependent)
WHERE: Peter Lowe Oval, 80 Minerva Rd- Manifold Heights
WHAT TO BRING:
Students are to wear their House Colour top/t-shirt, comfy running shorts, hat, drink bottle and apply sunscreen accordingly either prior to the event and during. Also encourage a yummy and healthy breakfast in the morning so students bellies are full and they have energy to burn.
Students from Prep, Grade 1 and 2 have been training super hard this Term in many events to get ready for the Junior Sports Day. They have been practising modified athletic events whilst also training for a modified Cross Country on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Below are the laps of the ovals the students will be running in. To minimise traffic and confusion for the students and marshals we will be running the students in year level with the girls competing first followed by the boys.
Preps Students- 2 Laps of Peter Lowe Oval (Approx 800M)
Grade 1 Students- 3 Laps of Peter Lowe Oval ( Approx 1200)
Grade 2 students- 4 laps of Peter Lowe Oval (Approx 1.6km)
Many of the events which are taught explicitly in grade Prep-2 focus on the technique and actions for when they arrive in the Grade 3 level. The events include hurdles (mini), 50m sprint, long jump, egg and spoon race, discus, shot-put, sack race, corn hole and parachute games. The students will most importantly have fun, learn about sportsmanship, teamwork and how trying their best in all events is self- rewarding, whilst also showing a competitive edge towards improving on their efforts from year to year. Our Prep- 2 Cross Country is to give the students the opportunity to experience actions that promote fitness, physical activity and identify changes in our body over time. Students finishing in the top 5 will be awarded ribbons and all students to receive a place card for their efforts.
Parents are absolutely welcome to come and watch and cheer from the outside of the oval. As this is an organised event through the Geelong Council, only supervising staff and students can be on the venue. But we would love to see you all come and cheer on the kids with a coffee in hand if you wish. The amount of students and staff has been recorded via the council and extra numbers cannot attend on the oval but can certainly watch from around it.
Kind regards and hope to see you around 9:30am!

MANO SWIMMING CARNIVAL 2026
Our 2026 Swimming Carnival at Geelong College Pool for Grade 3-6 students is on
Friday 30th of January. The event is for strong and confident swimmers who might progress through to the next Division level for swimming in Geelong and will represent ‘Mano’.
Students will compete in their appropriate age group. Students must be able to swim and race 25 metres up and 25 metres back without stopping (50m) in either freestyle, backstroke, breast-stroke or butterfly. Over the Summer break IF you feel that your child cannot complete this distance please let Mr Hambrook know ASAP next year in week 1so we can remove your child from the event 😊
At the moment we have 8 parent helpers and are looking for about 14. PLEASE let Georgia in the office know or come and speak to Mr Hambrook if you can assist during the event.
Kind regards,
