Our School Value - Respect

When we show respect at school we listen actively and speak politely. We follow directions and we treat school property, materials and others with care.
RESPECT IN THE PLAYGROUND
At SJV, we show respect in the playground by including others in our games, taking turns, and using kind words. We listen to each other, play fairly, and help our friends when they need support. By treating everyone with kindness and care, we create a safe and happy space where everyone feels valued and welcome. Respect in the playground helps us build strong friendships and enjoy our time together.
RESPECT AT HOME
Parents play a vital role in teaching respect by modeling it in everyday interactions. Here are a few simple but powerful ways to build this value at home:
- Model respectful communication: Speak kindly to children and others, listen actively, and avoid interrupting.
- Encourage responsibility: Assign age-appropriate chores and praise effort, showing that respect includes caring for shared spaces.
- Set clear boundaries: Teach children to respect others' personal space, belongings, and opinions.
- Use stories and media: Discuss characters' actions in books or shows to highlight respectful and disrespectful behavior.
Talk about feelings: Help children understand how their actions affect others and why empathy matters.
By consistently reinforcing respectful behavior, parents help children develop strong social skills and positive relationships.
