Year Six

Dear Year Six,

Wow, What a year 2023 has been in Year Six. It has been a remarkable journey for our students who are about to transition from primary school to the next exciting chapter of their lives. We have been filled with immense pride these past few weeks as we’ve had the opportunity to share some fun times together.

On December 7th, our fabulous students and staff attended our Year Six Graduation. The evening was full of celebrations with teacher presentations, student reflections, and students receiving their graduation certificates. There was a lot of nostalgia as we viewed photos of our students from their younger years as well as images of them during their time at Saltwater College since its opening in 2019. In between each class presentation, we were entertained with some fantastic song, dance, and cultural performances that our students worked tirelessly at too perfect. We were privileged to present various students with awards and scholarships for their hard work and dedication throughout 2023. Our students were so excited to reminisce about the graduation the next day as they eagerly signed each other's graduation bears and yearbooks.

To celebrate the end of Year Six, we took the cohort to Luna Park for their final outing with their classmates. Despite the weather, students had a fantastic time going on rides, eating snacks, and having fun with friends. Some were even lucky enough to ride the great Scenic Railway after lining up for close to two hours.

On Tuesday the 12th of December, the Grade 6 students participated in a statewide transition day, marking an important milestone in their educational journey. The day commenced with a welcome from our Assistant Principal, Ryan Ma, setting an enthusiastic tone for the activities ahead. Students were introduced to their 2024 homeroom teachers and eagerly explored their new classrooms. They then engaged in a diverse array of elective subjects including art, wood tech, science, and even food tech. Our students had the opportunity to experience hands-on learning. From designing pasta and marshmallow towers to creating delicious fruit skewers and exploring the world of coding, the day was filled with excitement and educational exploration. The Grade 6 students had a blast, and many are eagerly anticipating the adventures that high school holds for them. We look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success in the coming years.

In true Melbourne style, our unpredictable weather once again impacted our annual Christmas Carol Event. The students were incredibly adaptable as we teachers made last-minute adjustments to the performances. It was an astonishing Christmas Miracle as the kids shone on stage to close the Timetable B show. Make sure you head to the link on YouTube to see both performances.

We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to the parents and families who have entrusted us with the education and care of these remarkable young individuals. Your support and encouragement have played an integral role in their success.

In closing, we are extending the biggest congratulations to the Saltwater Year Six Graduates of 2023. As you move forward, remember that you are not alone. Your teachers, your parents, and your community are here to support you every step of the way. Lean on each other, seek guidance when needed, and always remember your roots here at Saltwater College. We have every confidence that you will go on to achieve great things and leave a positive mark on the world. Thank you for being such an exceptional group of students, and may your journeys ahead be filled with joy, success, and boundless opportunities.

Best Wishes,

Mrs Kilner, Miss Fatouros, Mr. Peterson, Miss Wetherill, Mr Bliss, Mrs Singh, Miss Grenfell & Miss Palombi.
