School Council

Hello fellow Weeden Heights parents,

It feels quite surreal to be writing my last Nokuna update for 2023! How are we already this close to the end of the year?!

Your school council had their last meeting for the year in mid-November, covering many issues and discussing plans for 2024.

At the heart of the meeting was decisions being made on Weeden’s fee structure for next year.  As you will have seen in the fee letters that come home last week, we decided there would be no changes to the fee structure for 2024.  This is done for a multitude of reasons, mainly being that we all know the cost of living pressures we have all felt throughout 2023, and school council wanted to make sure we did not add to those pressures wherever possible.

Parent fee contributions are a vital aspect of your school's funding every year, and every dollar of fees paid really does contribute in very significant ways to everything that we know and love about our school.

I have also just finished 2 days (split across a couple of weeks) of attending the schools review program.  Having just finished day two of this review, it really is so pleasing to see just how well Weeden Heights is performing in all areas – and when I say performing well, we are in the top 10% of all primary schools in Victoria! It’s an amazing result and one that is testament to everyone involved in our wonderful school.

It is really important to highlight the amount of work that goes into a school review, and particularly the amount of work that Ms Campbell has completed for this review.  It’s truly a phenomenal amount of work, on top of everything else that is going on at our school, and we should all be very proud of that work and the amazing results that Weeden is producing.  Well done to everyone involved!

I’d also like to give a special shout out to our amazing PFA, who hosted this year’s colour run, which is always a highlight of the Weeden. Emma and Evie came home covered in every colour of the rainbow, raving (yet again) about just how much fun the Colour Run is.  Thank you PFA!!

I have also had the chance to tour the (almost) finished building works, and it is going to be so exciting to see these spaces filled and being used from next year.  The works have come up exceptionally well and means the amazing community and results that Weeden has is also now reflected in the quality of our buildings.

So, as we draw close to the end of year, I’d like to wish you all a very Merry and safe Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2024.  To those families that are leaving us at the end of the year, I wish you every success in your future endeavours, and to everyone returning next year, lets gear up for an even bigger year!

And remember, you are all welcome to be involved in school council, and I would love to see more participation next year – if you have any questions or queries about school council at all, please feel free to speak to myself, or any of my fellow councillors, and we will be more than happy to discuss these queries with you.

Merry Christmas everyone!
