News from the Chicken Coop

Thank you to the Coates and McKay families for looking after our gorgeous feathered friends over the  last couple of weekends. We heard you got lots of eggs, well done!

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for Summer school holidays - 15 December to 28 January 2024.

Thank you to the families who have volunteered for this term so far.

We are now looking for volunteers to look after our gorgeous school chickens for the summer school holidays. During the summer holidays families volunteer to go on the chicken duty roster to look after our school chickens. You can choose how many days you would like to do, 2, 3 or 4 days in a row would be ideal.

Chicken Duty involves letting the chooks out of their coop in the mornings and putting them away in the evenings, checking that they have enough water each day and feeding them when needed. It doesn’t take very long. Occasional cleaning out of chicken manure will also be required. Full instructions will be provided. Don’t forget that duty families get to keep all the delicious eggs they collect while on duty. An information sheet will be provided with all the details so you will know what to do.

Please email Mel at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au  if you can help out during the September holidays. Nominate a couple of your preferred dates and we’ll pop you on the roster for one of those.

Egg Lotto

Tickets are available to buy at any time, just bring your money in and the Environment Leaders will help you out. We often sell tickets out in front of the school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15-3:30pm to sell tickets to parents or students.

All the money we make is put back into the keeping of the chickens for buying food and other resources. The next Egg Lotto draw will be Monday 4th December. There will be a few dozen eggs available to win so get your $1 raffle ticket soon.

Thanks for your support,
