Senior School

Years 10 to 12

2023 has been an immense year for Senior School at Gisborne Secondary College. The team at Senior School starts each year with clear objectives to make our young people’s journey as engaging and rewarding as possible. Our philosophy is to ensure every student’s individual needs and goals are supported, making their final three years of secondary education truly memorable.

To kick off the year we reintroduced the Year 12 Camp now known as the Apollo23 Camp. A wonderful opportunity for the new year 12’s to lay the friendships and groundwork for a tremendous final year.

In addition to the Apollo23 Camp, we saw the Year 11 Vocational Major students head out on their personal development camp. A wonderful opportunity for students to extend themselves and build strong relationships with their peers and staff.

The newly formed Student Leadership team launched their inaugural Legacy Projects resulting in many school improvement projects including, continued development of the Merit System and the extraordinarily successful Wellbeing Art Show.

Success was not only visible in the classroom this year but also with our array of extra-curricular programs at GSC. The College Production returned with a hit and had audiences raising the roof with applause. The MMA program continued to engage students with a physically demanding and rewarding schedule. Marketplace was an enormous success raising over $4500.00 towards the Royal Childrens Hospital.

Celebration Day also was a tremendous success with the graduating year group kicking off the day with a morning tea and bowls at the Bowls Club in Gisborne, followed by the inaugural Last Walk to School Parade through the centre of the Gisborne township.

As we neared the end of the year, the Senior School team and students moved into the brand-new Senior School Centre. The space not only is inspiring but has a real sense of calm and collaboration. We feel so lucky to have this space and look forward to familiarising ourselves with the space in 2024.

To wrap up the year we celebrated our Dux Rue K, Dux Proximus Abbey H, our CHES graduates and all our Year 12 students who completed either VCE or Vocational Major in 2023. We also received notification that VCE VET Dance student Jamie F, and VCE Drama student Zoe P have been invited to audition for Top Class Dance and Drama. So much success! Congratulations to you all!

Lastly, Gisborne Secondary College say farewell to Greg Savvinos our Year 12 Leader and resolute teacher. He has been a grounding force in Senior School and developed such supportive relationships with students. All the best for retirement Greg, you will be missed.

On behalf of the 2023 Senior School team, we wish all our students, families, and guardians a safe and relaxing summer break.
