Music News

It’s been a very busy semester in Music. During the last week of Term 3, the Senior Choir of 58 students attended the Massed Choir Festival. Our soloist Finn Jefferson sang confidently and musically, and our compere Aiyka Field-Maltais delivered her script flawlessly and with great conviction. The choir sang beautifully, and it was an amazing evening. Thank you to all the staff who attended this event and helped me with organising the students: Mrs Kinninment, Mrs Lindley, Mr Bradshaw, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Earnshaw, Mrs Whitwell, Mrs French, Signora Jones, and Mr Ellis.

In Week 6 we had our annual Music Concert evening which featured all ensembles and choirs with over 150 students involved. Everyone performed incredibly well, and it was a fantastic evening attended by more than 300 parents and families. Thank you so much to all the staff who gave up their evening to attend this event and support me behind the scenes: Mrs Kinninment, Mr Bradshaw, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Whitwell, Mr Ellis, and Mrs Duvall.

In Week 7 we had our annual IMSS Musical Soiree with more than 90 students learning a musical instrument through this fantastic program. All groups performed extremely well - despite the dreadful heat that evening! It was a great night and very well attended by parents and family. Thank you, Mr Bradshaw, and to all the IMSS Staff members who gave up their evening to attend this event: Miss Malcolm, Dr Meegan-Lowe, Miss Vukovic, Mr Bonini, Mrs Johnson, and Ms Hare.

During Music class, the Year 1s and 2s have been performing pieces of music on xylophones and other classroom percussion instruments. The Year 3s through to Year 6s have been learning about improvisation and performing pieces of Music on xylophones and recorders. All year groups have been learning about a variety of different instruments.

Our new Timpani arrived – they are magnificent! All classes have enjoyed learning about these unique percussion instruments. Thank you to our amazing P&C for purchasing these instruments for the school. They will bring so much joy to all students for many years to come.

All classes did the IMSS Musical Aptitude test in Week 8 of Term 3 and students who scored well in this test are now being considered for next year's program. This process takes a great deal of time. There are many criteria involved when choosing students for this program and the IMSS teachers are currently in the process of looking at individual children for their suitability on various instruments. If your child is successful, then you will receive an “Expression of Interest” email in the next week or two. Please read the commitment to this program carefully.

Best wishes for a wonderful festive season and a restful summer break!
