Possums & Echidnas

This week the Possum and Echidna groups both got to go on an excursion to Warrnambool Wildlife Encounters out at Cudgee! We enjoy the fact that it is a little bit out of town, as the bus ride was a big highlight of the trip! We learned about marsupials and reptiles, and also met a monotreme and some birds, including a barking owl. We got to feed lots of the animals, and hold a lizard, a snake, and a bettong. Zara thanked us for being gentle and caring to her animals.

Here are some of the children’s reflections on the morning:

I visited some animals - Jack

I liked the dingos and the joeys and the bilbies - Bailey

I held a snake and I put it around my neck - Lilly

I learned that kangaroos can eat apple - Phoebe

I learned that deers like to eat grain - Brax

I learned that wallabies can eat a lot! They can hold the bucket, I just give the bucket to them and let them hold it - Ollie

When I was feeding a kangaroo it just holded the bucket with both its hands and I let go and it looked at me like “what was that for?!” - Summer

I learned that emus like to eat apples - Ruby

I learned there is an owl that sounds like a dog - Miriam

I learned that baby kangaroos and wallabies can take the food themselves - Matilda

I learned that koalas can climb - Jack H

I learned there is a lizard with a tail that looks like it’s head, so birds think that it’s head is right there but its the bottom so they bite that instead so it won’t get so hurt - Mila
