Japanese Music Incursion

On Monday 13th November, students had the opportunity to experience a truly authentic Japanese musical performance. Highly acclaimed musician and composer, Anne Norman, played the shakuhachi, a bamboo flute. Toshinori Sakamoto is a master Taiko drummer. The performance was a beautiful blend of culture, history and music.

I spoke to a few students after the performance, and this is what they said.

Mason 3/4C: I was impressed and found it inspiring.

Jack 1/2D: I felt like I was wrestling a sea monster.

Frankie FW: I imagined I was walking through a bamboo forest.

Archie 1/2M: The shakuhachi made me feel like a ninja.

Ronin 1/2M: The big drums made me feel bumpy.

Lucy 1/2M: The best bit was when the kids had a turn playing the instruments.

Huddo FW: When I was listening to the shakuhachi with my eyes closed, I felt calm and imagined being brave.

Other students used words like excited, happy, entertaining, calm, loud, funny, enjoyable and spectacular to describe the performance.
