Year 5/6
Year 5/6 Cluster News Term 4 Week 6
Home Inquiry:
Read for 20 minutes. Reading is to be recorded in student diaries with the book title, page numbers read, and the time read.
Shirts
Students have completed designing shirts for next year. The shirts have been voted on and we will now begin the process of working with the graphic designer to finalise the design. We will let parents know when sample shirts are available to check sizing. We will also outline pricing, etc.
Literacy
This week students have continued to examine some of the strategies used by their favourite authors and have continued the process of creating a prequel, sequel or alternative ending for their favourite book. The focus of this task has been to recognise strategies and features used by specific authors for effect. Next week, students will begin a writing piece that links with our final assessment for unit of inquiry.
Inquiry
This week, students have had the opportunity to pick a focus area that they are interested in. The Year 5 students have had a focus on the transfer of light or changes to earth's surface. Year 6 students have had a focus area of the solar system, looking into orbit and seasons. Students have started creating a video which shares their definitions of key words related to their topic as well as examines the impact of their area on living things.
Maths
We continue to work on our Algebra unit which includes order of operations and BEDMAS. Students have been refining their skills in mental computation and have better understanding of the order of operations.
Graduation Dinner
Dear Year 6 Families,
It's that time of year where we celebrate the end of primary school for our year 6 students. The invitations have been sent out, please contact your child’s teacher if you have not yet received this.
Please remember that this is a Year 6 graduation, not a Year 12 graduation. There is no need to spend exorbitant amounts of money on: clothing, makeup, hair, etc. Students who are over the top with dressing up etc. often feel uncomfortable given the majority of students do not do this. Students should be in semi-formal attire.
We look forward to celebrating this special occasion.
End of Year HOYTS Excursion
As part of our end of year celebration, Year 5 and 6 students will be going to HOYTS to watch the movie Trolls. Please ensure that permission forms are returned and that you have pre-ordered snacks for your child (if desired) via Qkr. Lunch will be provided on the day with orders being completed at school.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Just a reminder students need to have a fully charged iPad, a keyboard, headphones, hat and a drink bottle every day.
Kind Regards
Year 5/6 Teachers
