Year 3/4 Cluster News Term 4 Week 6

 

HOME INQUIRY

Reading: 

Spend 15 minutes reading. If you had been the main character in the story, would you have acted differently? What was the author’s message?  

 

Maths:

Create a list with your family of the most important things to spend your money on. Can you identify any items on your list that are needs or wants? 

 

Home Inquiry:

Share about the charity you have been learning about in Christian Studies? What is the purpose and mission of the organisation? 


Learning this week

Literacy:

Jolly Spelling: Year 3: “ure” as in feature, treasure, failure. Year 4: “or” for er as in world, worship, worthy 

 

Jolly Grammar: Year 3: Collective nouns. Year 4: Questions and statements.   

 

Writer’s Workshop: We are exploring persuasive writing with a focusing on text structure, paragraphs and using descriptive vocabulary to convince others. Students will be applying editing skills to their texts as well as prepare oral presentations to support arguments when debating. 

 

Reader’s Workshop: Students will finish the year focusing on a spotlight, ‘Reading that brings you joy’.


Mathematics: 

Classes will finish up money learning (focussing on budgeting, counting change, adding and multiplying the cost of items to find totals). We will then review number skills for the remainder of term.


Unit of Inquiry:

After presenting proposals for our town community scenarios, classes will explore the needs within our school and question what we can do to help our school community? Students will propose ideas, take action and have conversations around needs within our school.


Christian Studies: 

Students will present their findings on a charity organisation to explain the purpose, mission, belief and identify how the group informs their decisions. This learning relates to our understanding of things Jesus did in the Bible to support his community and assists us on reflecting and taking action within our own community.

Apps to install: Please install the app HeyJapan onto your child’s iPad, it will be used in Japanese for the remainder of the term. 

 

Carols Concert – Friday 1st December (Week 7) 

 Our annual Carols evening is Friday Week 7. This year the students will perform a song in clusters, with a play of the nativity to also be presented. More details to come closer to the date. 

 

 

Year 3/4 End of Year Excursion – Bowling & GoldenFields- Monday 4th December (Week 8):  Please return by the end of Week 6 (Friday 24th November). If your child has any dietary requirements, please inform your classroom teacher as we are looking at providing a pizza lunch.
