Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back to term 3 and I hope you have had a lovely holiday break. Mrs Soumelidis is on leave until the end of this week, and we look forward to welcoming her back to school. We have a very busy term ahead, so please continue to check our School Bytes calendar to keep up to date with events.

Public Education Week

Public Education Week is a special time for our school community to celebrate the strengths and diversity of public education. We recognise the dedication of our teachers and staff, and the wonderful learning, creativity, and growth happening in every classroom. We warmly invite all families to join us on Thursday 6th August from 1:00pm for an afternoon of celebration, including student displays and activities. Thank you for choosing public education and for supporting our school, it’s your involvement that helps our students thrive and makes our school a great place to learn and grow together!

Congratulations Mrs Reitano and Mrs Huynh

Big congratulations to Mrs Reitano and Mrs Huynh who are receiving a 2026 Metropolitan South and West Directorate Principal Network Award. The purpose of the Principal Network Award is to acknowledge, recognise and celebrate outstanding achievement and service. Recipients are selected through a rigorous nomination process across each principal network in Metropolitan South and West. The award recognises individuals and/or groups who have demonstrated significant achievement in  their role, making valuable contributions to the NSW Department of Education, and to the promotion of public education. Mrs Reitano and Mrs Huynh have won the award in the category Excellence in Educational Leadership. They have worked hard in implementing a consistent explicit teaching approach underpinned by research and evidence-based literacy practices. This work has resulted in significant growth in NAPLAN reading outcomes, with Year 3 scores increasing by 17.7 points and Year 5 scores rising by 25.8 points, a remarkable demonstration of school-wide progress. Thank you for your commitment to our students at Bonnyrigg Public School, Mrs Reitano and Mrs Huynh.

Parent communication and behaviour

We kindly remind parents and carers that all communication related to our school community should be respectful and considerate, in line with the Department’s Code of Ethics and Conduct. If you have any questions or concerns about decisions, such as your child receiving a 'white slip' or aspects of our discipline policy, please feel free to contact the office to arrange a meeting with a member of the executive team. We ask that discussions with teachers take place through the appropriate channels to ensure positive and constructive conversations. It’s important that all interactions honour the rights and wellbeing of students, families, and staff, in keeping with our parent code of conduct. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone. For your reference, we have included a copy of the Community Charter in this newsletter.

Reminder about parking in front of the school

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation each morning and for not parking illegally in front of the school. However, we have noticed an increase in illegal parking during the afternoon pick up time at 2:55 pm.

Please remember that the area in front of the school is designated as a kiss and drop zone, where it is illegal to park and leave your vehicle unattended. This zone is in place to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic for all members of our community.

We kindly ask that you respect these regulations and avoid parking in this area. Please note that the police regularly monitor Tarlington Parade during these busy periods and enforce parking rules to keep everyone safe.

External Validation

In Week 10 of Term 2, our school participated in the Department of Education’s External Validation process, a valuable opportunity to review and celebrate our achievements against the School Excellence Framework. This process involved a reflective and thorough evaluation of our practices by our executive team alongside Department of Education’s panel members.  We are proud to share that five elements from the School Excellence Framework for our school were validated at the "Excelling" level and nine elements achieved the "Sustaining and Growing" level, highlighting our commitment to continuous improvement. This valuable reflection will help inform the development of our new School Excellence Plan, guiding our focus and goals for the coming years. We thank everyone involved for their dedication and look forward to building on this success together.
