Junior School sports update

Nothing delights me more than seeing the pathway created by Junior School sport! Recently, I was thrilled to receive an update about the Canterbury Hockey Club Blue team, which competes in an U12 roster facilitated by Hockey Tasmania. Impressively, the team includes 11 St Mary's College students.

The team is coached by Ben Hirst, who has previously coached an SMC quarter field team for several years. A number of players from that team have also participated in our SMC Blue Half Field team, which Joshua Weir coached this year for the Term 2 roster. We even have two promising goalkeepers, Heidi and Rennie, in our midst, pictured below.

It's wonderful to witness the strong SMC bond carrying over from school to club hockey. I hope it fosters a lifelong passion for sports and long-lasting participation. The hockey future at St Mary’s College is certainly looking bright!

State Hockey players represent!

Congratulations to Madeline Stanton, Annabelle Pritchard (Year 6), Sylvie Gundry and Sofie Klasen (Year 5) who represented Tasmania at the U12 National Hockey Championships held recently in Cairns.

Tasmania had a challenging draw and played against some tough competition, but our students battled on admirably in every game, demonstrating their tenacity, perseverance and fighting spirit.

The College is extremely proud of Maddie, Annabelle, Sylvie and Sofia who have proven to be fantastic representatives of both our state and the College.

Cricket Tasmania visit

Last week, students in Years 3 and 4 were treated to a visit from members of both the men’s and women’s Hurricanes and Tigers cricket squads.

The students wholeheartedly embraced the experience, and their engagement and enjoyment were apparent as they participated in four skill-based cricket activities.

For those students with a keen interest to pursue cricket further, the JSSATIS cricket roster is offered next term and Cricket Tasmania will again be delivering the Girls Colour Blast during the October School Holidays.

This program is free and aimed at girls aged five to 12 years. More information is in the flyer below.
