Mr Wayne Smith

Dear Parents and Carers,

The 8th September on the liturgical calendar is the birthday of Mary, the Mother of Christ. Like all mothers, Mary was devoted to her son, Jesus and was always there for Him in good and difficult times. Mary’s love and belief in her Son never wavered.  We will celebrate our College name next Friday 13th September with Mass in the College multi-purpose hall, parents and parishioners are welcome to join us for the celebration of the Eucharist.

💫 Neighbourhood Policing Forum

The policing forum held at the Seymour Racing Club focused on the Eastern Region Mitchell Police Service Area.  There was a Q&A on regional statistics, positive targeted programs, current and future challenges. Family Incidents; Family Violence; breaching Family Violence Orders; Youth Offences; Crime & Drugs; Road Policing and Community Safety concerns were the primary agenda items.

A discussion point at the forum is the affect family violence and substance abuse have on children’s global growth.

💫 Staffing Temporary Appointment

Following interviews last week, Mrs Kristy Woods has begun a temporary position assisting the finance team for the remainder of the College year. Kristy will fill in for Mrs Lisa Cinquegrana when she begins medical leave.

💫 Father’s Day

Thank you to the dads, grandfathers and special carers for attending our breakfast.

The influence of male adult role models is essential for our sons and daughters. The famous Harry Chapin song, Cat’s in the Cradles is so true of life, especially when life passes families by so quickly. Children think of mum and dad as their heroes. Harry Chapin was a folk music legend in America. He was killed in 1981 in a car accident when at the peak of his musical powers.

We can only guess how many families have been prayed for by the Sisters of Mercy over past decades in our College Mercy Convent Chapel. And then there are the Carmelite Sisters who are traditionally a closed Religious Order. They shut themselves off from the world and devoted their communal life to prayer and charity. Parents would get a message to the Carmelites to pray for someone in their family who needed healing. The power of prayer can never be taken for granted or taken lightly.

We so often worry about things that often do not deserve the worry, but we can forget we are human and therefore no one is perfect. None of us are immune to the physical, mental, relational or emotional struggles that life throws at us.

Fair to say that we can take solace from those who know the true meaning of struggle. Those who do not complain but suffer silently, as they deal with the journey of ill health. They are the brave hearts of courage and of the glass half full attitude to life in this beautiful world of ours.

Enjoy the beginning of spring and may Mary always keep St Mary’s in the palm of her hand.

Best wishes

Wayne Smith
