During Child Protection Week, our students will engage in activities and discussions centered around the theme, "Every conversation matters," as part of the national campaign to prevent child abuse. Through these conversations, students will learn about the importance of speaking up, understanding safety issues, and building strong social connections.
This week is also an opportunity for our school community to reflect on how we can contribute to a safer environment for children and young peoplements for all. By fostering open dialogue, we aim to ensure that every child feels valued, heard, and safe.
Next Tuesday, 3rd September 2024, during National Child Protection Week, to support Daniel Morcombe’s story, our students will participate in Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson (ABCSL). Early primary students (ages 4-7) will learn about enthusiastic consent, while upper primary students (ages 8-12) will focus on affirmative consent. Through engaging activities and discussions, they’ll explore how to confidently give and receive consent. This lesson builds on last year's teachings and provides students with important strategies to recognize, react, and report in various situations.
St Michael's is committed to promoting child safety and wellbeing in our school environment to safeguard our students against any type of abuse, neglect or harm. I would like to remind you that the following policy is available on our school website via this link. Child Safety Code of Conduct Policy
