The Gift of Fathers

On the first Sunday of September, we acknowledge the fathers and male role models in our lives. 

In the Bible we read and learn about nine famous fathers:

1. Adam - the first person created by God and technically speaking the first father
2. Noah - a fatherly figure who stayed true to God
3. Abraham - the father of a nation 
4. Issac - a loving and obedient son who grew into being a compassionate father
5. Jacob - the father of the 12 tribes of Israel 
6. Moses - a father and the voice and leader of the Hebrew people
7. David - a person full of courage who also made not so good choices in his youth, changed his ways to become a king of Israel, father of Solomon and role model for many
8. Joseph - the earthly father of Jesus; a man of love and compassion 
9. God the Father - our heavenly father, provider and protector

Let us pray that political leaders be at the service of their own people, working for integral human development and the common good, taking care of those who have lost their jobs and giving priority to the poor.
