Principal message
Good Afternoon Families,
This week at St Monica’s, we celebrate the twin feasts of our patroness, Saint Monica, and her son, Saint Augustine. These two remarkable figures, commemorated side by side, a fitting reminder of the deep connection between them and the shared path to holiness they walked together.
Saint Monica’s life was marked by her unwavering faith and her fervent prayers for the conversion of her son, Augustine. Despite facing many challenges, Monica’s persistence in prayer, her acts of penance, and her steadfast devotion not only paved the way for Augustine’s conversion but also shaped her own sanctity.
Monica’s story speaks to the power of enduring faith, even when answers seem distant. Her life is a powerful example of the Gospel’s call to "ask, seek, and knock," and to trust that in due time, our prayers will bear fruit if we do not give up. Saint Augustine, much like his mother, was driven by a deep longing—not for faith initially, but for happiness and meaning. His journey took him down many roads, but true peace eluded him until he surrendered to Christ, fulfilling the very prayer his mother had offered so faithfully.
On this special week, let us honour the legacy of our patroness, Saint Monica, by embodying her spirit of perseverance and prayer. May the example of both Saints Monica and Augustine inspire us all to seek a richer, more meaningful life in our faith.
Congratulations to everyone for the wonderful effort to celebrate Book Week. We certainly had a sea of creative book week costumes! Celebrating books and literacy within education is always delightful. Well done to all the parents who probably had to research the intricate detail of certain characters, deal with changing minds and last minute wardrobe glitches. I’m sure it was a very busy morning in almost all households today, including our St Monica’s staff homes.
It was also a special week for our children and their families who received the sacrament of Reconciliation. The celebration was a wonderful culmination of our preparation and I thank all staff, families and children for their commitment and participation as they take another important step in their faith journey.
This week we also have our Fathers day stall on Thursday and Donuts for Dad on Friday. We look forward to holding our annual Father’s Day stall whereby all the children will have an opportunity to purchase their very own special gift for Dad or loving male figure in their lives. This is followed by our donuts For Dads Father’s Day breakfast gathering on Friday. It is certainly a great opportunity to reflect on the positive role models in our lives and the lives of our children.
Kind Regards,
Paul Wilkinson
