Choir - Opera House Performance
Last Monday, our Boambee School Choir met at the Opera House for a truly wonderful experience. First, we had a guided backstage tour of the Opera House and learnt all sorts of amazing information about the history and construction of the Opera House. We then joined all of the other students from the NSW Combined Schools Choir for our rehearsal. We were treated to a performance by the Tiwi Strong Women, where they sang the original version of 'Wunijaka', a traditional Tiwi Islands song. We would be singing an arrangement of this song during our evening performance. We had a well-earned break after the rehearsal before heading back to our seats in the Concert Hall of the Opera House for the evening performance. The Combined Schools Choir sang 10 songs. Some songs were accompanied by The Festival Orchestra and a few by the NSW State Schools Stage Band.
Mrs Bull and I were so proud of the behaviour of our students throughout the day, and especially during the performance. It is not an easy task to be 'on display' for that long, but our Boambee students were remarkable. I especially want to acknowledge the hard work they had done to be prepared for this moment: the hours of practice at home and during lunchtimes since February. I applaud your commitment and dedication to our choir and I am in awe of how beautifully you sing together. Congratulations, Boambee School Choir!
