Music News

The music department has been busy with lots of events taking place. Students in the junior and intermediate concert bands and our string students participated in the East Gippsland Music festival held at Orbost Community College. The festival took place over 4 days with combined music workshops culminating in a gala concert. With over 80 students in some of the ensembles it was a great experience for our students to play in a large ensemble. Thank you to those parents and students who attended the gala concert. The evening was a huge success.

Maffra’s Got Talent

It was great to see our young musicians participate in MGT this year. Our junior, intermediate concert bands and rock group performed in the heats. Although the concert bands didn’t make the grand finale, it was a great having them play in front of a large audience. The rock band made it through the to the grand finale but unfortunately, they didn’t win the event. I must congratulate the rock band for learning a new song in a week. Students decided to have extra rehearsals in preparation for the finale. They are to be commended on their enthusiasm in having a go. We look forward to next year’s MGT.

Lessons/Rehearsals/Practice/Tuition & Instrument Hire Fees

Instrumental lessons seem to be going along smoothly with all students attending each week. Students in the concert bands, string ensemble, vocal group harmonix and rock band are showing great commitment attending their weekly rehearsals. All groups are expanding their repertoire which is great to see. A reminder to all students to take their instrument home after their lesson and don’t forget to practise your lesson work and ensemble pieces. Remember practice makes perfect! A reminder to all families term 3 tuition fees and instrument hire fees are now due.

Concert

A concert was held on Monday 5th August in the Theatrette. It featured our concert bands, string group, vocal group Harmonix, rock band as well as solo and small group items. It was fantastic to see many families in attendance supporting our young musicians. Although we had a few students absent due to illness, our ensembles rose to the occasion performing their chosen repertoire on the night. Our soloists did a great job playing for the first time in public. It takes a lot of courage to stand up in front of an audience and perform. I was proud of their efforts and enthusiasm they displayed and can’t wait for their next performance. Congratulations to all students who participated at our concert. We look forward to our next performance which will be held in term 4.

On behalf of instrumental music staff Robyn Keane and Donna Stemberger keep up the good work.
