Year 9 science students are learning about DNA, genetics and inheritance. They were pretty excited to see what DNA looks like after it has been extracted from a strawberry!
DNA Fun Fact 1: Strawberries are octoploid, which means they have eight of each type of chromosome in each cell. Compare this to humans, which are diploid and have only two of each type of chromosome in each cell!
DNA Fun Fact 2: Did you know, that if you spoke one ‘letter’ of DNA per second 24 hours a day, it would take about 100 years to recite the entire human genome!
