SCHOOL FOR STUDENT LEADERSHIP 

We currently have four Year 9 students attending the Alpine Campus at the School for Student Leadership – Jaxon Marshall, Lincoln Phillips, Ella Kirkham and Alannah McInnes. They are having a wonderful time meeting new people, learning to ski, going on outdoor expeditions and developing their leadership and teamwork skills.  

We are now looking for Year 8 students who would like to attend the School for Student Leadership in 2025. In 2025, a team of Year 9 students from Maffra Secondary College will attend the SNOWY RIVER CAMPUS in Term 1, 2025. The team will consist of 6 students, 3 boy students who identify as male and 3 girl students who identify as female. 

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL FOR STUDENT LEADERSHIP? 

School for Student Leadership (SSL) is a Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are three campuses in iconic locations across Victoria. TheAlpine School Campus is located at Dinner Plain in the Victorian Alps. Snowy River Campus is near the mouth of the Snowy River at Marlo in east Gippsland. The third site is adjacent to Mount Noorat near Camperdown in Victoria’s Western District, and is called Gnurad-Gundidj. The newly built Don Valley Campus is located in the Yarra Valley at the foot of the Yarra Ranges. 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND? 

Any Year 9 student who is interested in developing leadership skills, teamwork capabilities and learning a range of new skills not offered in a traditional school environment. Students must be committed to leaving their home for 9 weeks. Please note that there is a cost associated with the program. The total cost is $900 or $400 for Health Card Card holders. 

I’M INTERESTED. HOW DO I APPLY? 

Year 8 students will need to fill out the attached application form and selection criteria during TERM 3 of 2024 if they are interested in attending the School for Student Leadership in 2025.  The closing date for applications is Friday 31st August, 2024. Application forms are to be handed to the front office or to Mrs Raine.
