Student Leadership

Student Leadership
The student leaders have been working on a number of projects for this term. Not only has Maffra’s Got Talent been a big success, but we also have Book Week, Purple Day, RUOK? Day and Carnival Day to be celebrated this term.
This term’s Casual Dress Day was in honour of Book Week. Students were encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and all gold coins collected will go towards State Schools Relief. State Schools’ Relief is a Victorian not-for-profit that supports the needs of disadvantaged government school students by providing new school uniforms, school shoes and a host of other essential educational resources, including learning devices. To find out more, go to https://stateschoolsrelief.org.au/. It was great to see so many staff and students dress up for the day!
Year 11 and 12 students have started planning for this year’s Carnival Day which will be held on Wednesday 28th August. There will be a range a stalls this year, including pick a duck, spinning wheel, face painting, a photo booth, pizza and baked goods, spiders, ice-cream and chance games to play. More information about ticket pricing will be provided closer to the day.
Year 7, 8 and 9 students were busy making bookmarks in L2L early this term. This was to help achieve an Australian Record of the greatest number of bookmarks designed by school students, a project being run by Heyfield Primary School as a way to celebrate Book Week and promote the importance of literacy. On Tuesday 30th July, Caitlin Morris (Year 9 student leader) and Harry Allison (Year 8 student leader), along with teacher, Kristen Raine, delivered 204 bookmarks to Velleda Thomas, the principal at Heyfield Primary School. We look forward to seeing the end result and see the Australian record beaten!
