Maffra's Got Talent
Term 3 has seen students show off their talents with our annual Maffra’s Got Talent. We have had a number of performers demonstrate a great deal of courage in taking up the challenge of performing in front of staff and students.
The student leadership team made some adjustments to the format this year by including more student representation on the judging panel and introducing a people’s choice vote for each heat and for the Grand Finale.
In Heat 1, we had a comedy music act by Jeremy Smyth (Year 12) and Luke Lanigan (Year 11), Caitlin Morris (Year 9) show off her talents on the bass guitar and an inspirational speech written and performed by the talented Janah Thomas (Year 7).
In Heat 2, the Rock Band performed Complicated by Avril Lavigne, we had a singing and dancing duet by crowd-favourites Summer Harbour and Lara Dowsett (Year 10) as well as the talented Ruby Wolstenholme (Year 12) sing solo on guitar and the Intermediate and Junior Concert Bands playing some catchy tunes.
On Monday 12th August, we held our Grand Finale as a whole-school event in the gym in the last hour of the day. The competition was close with all four finalists receiving high scores from the judges. The Grand Finale was lots of fun, with a special appearance from our musically talented staff entertaining the audience while the people’s choice votes were counted. The special staff band performance also saw a 100-long student-led conga line snaking around the gym. In the end, it came down to the people’s choice to decide the Grand Finale winners for Maffra’s Got Talent 2024….
