Creative Arts

Mrs Catherine Wood - Music / Drama / Amadeus Classroom Program Teacher

What's been happening in Creative Arts this term?

Amadeus

The Amadeus Classroom Program integrates Music, Drama and Dance. The room is always a hive of activity where students are encouraged to experiment with their ideas creatively in a safe environment.

Year 3 has been exploring the instruments of the orchestra this year. In Term Three the focus has been on the Brass Family. The students have  really enjoyed performing a percussion score to a brass marching band playing Sousa’s High School Cadets. We have also listened to a wonderfully colourful orchestral piece and story called Tubby the Tuba.

Year 4 has been discovering their singing voices this term, performing rounds and partner songs. They have also been learning about Musical Theatre and have been showing off their dance moves in A Whole New World.

Network Festival

Students from St Martha’s Primary School Choir and  a small String Ensemble, Piano, Synthesizer and Windchimes, have been working diligently this term to prepare for a performance at the Network Festival to be held at St Vincent’s College in Term 4, Week 5. They will be performing an original composition, “Shine Our Way” (The Methuselah Star HD140283), written by Steve Wood (Yes, my husband!). The lyrics were written in association with the students of St Martha’s Catholic School Choir and the title came from Mayella K.  It is a highly ambitious project which I hope will bring inspiration and joy to both performers and the audience. I know for me it has been an extremely rewarding experience to see the students rise spectacularly to the challenge.

I look forward to sharing more news in future newsletters.
