Energy Breakthrough Update
The KCEB team has been very busy over the last six months fixing up last year’s bikes so that they were in race condition, training at the Edithvale Velodrome and sourcing donations and sponsorship.
At the start of Term 3, they entered the Vic HPV Series event at Sandown Racecourse. This seven hour event, on Saturday July 27 , is partly a dress rehearsal for the 24-hour event at Maryborough in November. It forms an extremely valuable experience for team preparation as a fitness builder, practising race skills and pit crew training.
The Killester teams were housed in garage 23 and placed side by side on the grid in positions 51, 50 and 49. All three of the bikes were entered and each team should be congratulated on peddling their best through all kinds of weather over the course of the day. The team riding Blossom came third in the senior female event with forty-seven laps.
With that event finished, the team is now removing all the external corflute that has served us well over the last two years and getting organised to refurbish them with new corflute incorporating the 2024 theme; Mario Princesses. Much voting is being done about the final T-shirt and Trike designs for each of the Princesses: Peach, Daisy and Rosalina.
Training has revved up a notch and all interested riders have had their gym induction so they can increase their muscular fitness. Regular exercise sessions and Beep test trials have been happening before school, at lunchtime and after school.
In August, a small group of students went to Monash University, where they met with their HPV team. In their workshop, they learnt a lot about aerodynamics which they hope to apply to new designs for the front of our trikes to help reduce drag and increase speed.
The KCEB Fundraising team has been ringing local businesses to drum up some sponsorship and donations. They also raffled off a donation of MECCA cosmetics. Every little bit helps us purchase items that are essential for safe riding, well-presented trikes and comfortable camp life.
To date, we would like to acknowledge the generous donations from the following:
Springvale RSL: Generously provide us with $750, these extra funds will help us to purchase new uniforms, bike helmets, shoes and gloves.
Bunnings Springvale: Thanks to Bonnie has generously donated $200 worth of vouchers that will help us purchase things like cable ties, gaffe tape and more.
Officeworks Dandenong South: Thanks to Issy has generously donated a box of stationary including acrylic paint pens that will be very useful in creating the final colourful designs on the trikes.
Altronics Springvale: Thank you for providing our team with Nashua Gaffa Tape for your HPV. We use the tape to construct the outer corflute of all our trikes. Altronics has also very graciously offered Killester staff and students discounts at their Springvale store!
Term 4 will see the team really gearing up to be ready for the big twenty four hour race at the end of November.
Year 11 Physical Education Incursion
In this unit of Year 11 Physical Education, we've been exploring the concept of inclusivity, and wheelchair basketball has been a fantastic example.
Peter Ogunyemi, an accomplished wheelchair basketball player and AFL player, came to our school and taught us all so much! His visit allowed us to see how the sport embraces everyone, regardless of physical ability, and taught us valuable lessons about teamwork, determination, and respect. We gained a deeper understanding of how inclusivity works in real life.
We were inspired by Peter's skills and enthusiasm. His presence truly highlighted the importance of continuing to make sports accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

CGSAV Junior Netball
Killester College had five Junior Netball teams of students from Years 7 and 8 travel to the State Netball Centre in Parkville to participate in the CGSAV Junior Netball Competition.
Our teams demonstrated Strength and Kindliness throughout the day, by working together. Each of our teams should be very proud of their efforts, with our D and E teams placing third, and our A, B and C teams making the grand finals.
Our B and C teams narrowly lost, whilst our A team won their divisions. We also had two players named as players of the finals in their games, congratulations to Savannah P and Paulina S.
A big thank you and congratulations to all of the staff and students involved, we are very proud of everyone's efforts.
Youth Event
Last term, we were invited to send a group of students to be involved in a discussion session run by the Community Education Officer for the Interfaith Network of Greater Dandenong. This Youth Event was called the “Talking Faith Forum.” It was for interested students aged between 16-21 eager to join the conversation on identity and faith and to partner with peers from diverse faith backgrounds, and contribute their ideas in various brainstorming sessions.
Some of the questions floated were:
What is identity?
How do we express our identity?
What shapes our identity?
Is your community part of your identity?
Is faith or spirituality part of your identity?
Our students were most informative in the discussions and gave the two interviewers some great follow-up material. As usual, our students were wonderful ambassadors for our school.
Thank you to Jesele, Jesela, Brooklyn, Jis and Sarah for attending.
CGSAV Table Tennis
Earlier this month, Killester College had over thirty students from Years 7-12 represent the school and travel to MSAC to participate in the CGSAV Table Tennis Competition.
It was a fantastic day with all of our students working together in pairs across the course of the competition.
It was a successful day, with our Junior Team placing 6th, our Senior Team making the semi-finals, and our Intermediate Team making the Grand Final.
Thank you and congratulations to all of the students and staff involved in training and competition day, you should all be proud of your efforts.
Walking/Running Club
The Walking Running club has continued this term with a group of ten regular participants enjoying a chance to run, walk and chat with their friends out of the school. The course is 2.4 km around the block. Many students are now able to run the distance and have challenged themselves to improve their endurance fitness.
We especially give a shout-out to Tahnysha T who has now finished school and preparing for her exams, Tahnysha has been an awesome role model for the group. Good luck Tahnysha and we will miss your participation each week.
Keep up the great work and dedication everyone.
Global Politics Incursion
Recently, our Year 12 Politics students were thrilled to welcome Claire O'Neil, our Federal Member of Parliament, for an insightful discussion.
Claire, who fondly recalls the influence her own Politics classes had on her journey, shared stories from her time in parliament and encouraged students to see politics as a powerful way to make a difference.
Her visit was a unique opportunity for students to ask questions about her career, the realities of political life, and the impact a dedicated teacher had on her path. Claire’s enthusiasm and authenticity resonated with the students, inspiring them to think critically about the role they can play in shaping the future.
#Filtered - The Body Image Project
Filtered - The Body Image Project, led by Greater Dandenong Youth and Family Services, officially launched following Mental Health Awareness Month. ✨
This project is the culmination of a co-designed project between Youth Services and Year 8 students from Killester College, with input from the Butterfly Foundation. 🦋
Year 11 and 12 VCE, Vocational Major (VM) design students from Chisholm Institute, developed the visual designs and representations of the work of Killester students. Here is the final social media awareness campaign. 🤳
The objective of this project is to promote positive body image and self-esteem among local young women across Greater Dandenong, and we think it does just that. Stay tuned for more incredible and informative content to come.

AFL Women's League - Hawthorn
Killester has been forging a relationship with the Hawthorn AFLW and AFL teams over the past year. As the completion of their new ground in Dingley draws closer, it is wonderful to finally also have some team members come to the College to engage with Killester students. Last week Aine McDonagh and Tahlia Fellows (AFLW Hawthorn) completed some skills coac in a workshop and then responded to questions posed by a number of Years 7 and 8 students regarding their pathway to this elite level of sport.
Year 7 (2025) Flying Solo Day
On Friday 18 October, the Year 7 Student Leaders were involved in the Flying Solo Day, where we welcomed students who will be starting in Year 7 at our school next year and are the only ones coming from their current school.
On this day we ran many different activities that helped the flying solo students to get to know other students who were in the same situation as them and make friends before they started their next chapter at our school.
Some of the activities we did included ‘Speed Friending’, ‘Move If...’ and ‘Pac-Man’. We also did some arts and crafts, where students had the opportunity to create their own keychains, and the House Leaders ran some games.
The Transition Leaders took students on a small tour of the school so that they could become more familiar with the location of the main buildings that they will be going into next year.
Overall, it was a very fun and successful day. We hope that all of our flying solo students enjoyed themselves and we look forward to welcoming them back at the next orientation day.

Young Women's Gala
I recently participated in the Young Women’s Gala Day organised by the City of Greater Dandenong. The day kicked off with a lively team-building activity which encouraged us to collaborate with other schools. After a quick morning tea with some fruit and many different varieties of cupcakes, we transitioned to our next activity.
At the Gala, we learned basketball & soccer skills, self-defense, hip hop, and attended a confidence-building workshop. The instructors were enthusiastic and supportive, making everyone feel energetic while pushing us to step out of our comfort zones.
Overall, the activity day was a perfect blend of fun and exercise.
