The HIVE official opening
The official opening of The HIVE on 27 March 2024 was an iconic occasion for the Kilvington community. We’d especially like to thank and acknowledge all the donors, including members of our Alumni, for their generous contributions that helped make our new STEAM Centre a reality.
We were honoured to be joined by former Principal Di Fleming AM who spoke brilliantly about Kilvington’s leadership in technology and science in the 90s. We were the first school in Australia to provide students with access to the internet.
David Southwick, Member for Caulfield, kindly assisted in the official cutting of the ribbon, ably supported by School Co-Vice Captain Jack Campbell-Manly.
Announced at the official opening was The Jon Charlton Technology Centre (former Principal) and The Professor Jayashri Kulkarni AM Science Centre (former Chair of the Board). Both were instrumental in taking the vision of a STEAM Centre and making it a reality.
We thank The Hugh and Selina Williams Foundation for their generous contribution to The Coding Lounge.
Also, a special mention to our School Co-Captains Ruby Wilson and Jude Teo - Ruby was brilliant as the emcee for the official event (as well as the Donor Appreciation Event) and Jude gave a special insight into what The HIVE means for our students.
Year 8 student, Cameron Leighton was acknowledged for his creativity in coming up with the name The HIVE, Harmony, Innovation, Vision and Excellence.

High School Musical – Senior School Production
The Senior School production of High School Musical was performed in the middle of Term 2 to excited audiences and was a rewarding experience for all involved!
The cast dedicated themselves to rehearsals, displaying a strong work ethic and a great sense of camaraderie with each other, resulting in wonderful performances that helped create lasting memories for the students.
Production Captain, Elijah Slavinskis, Year 11 shares his experiences.
“Last week, we finished up our three performances of High School Musical, with almost all of them to full houses!
Being part of this production was an incredible experience. It was definitely one of the funniest shows I've participated in at Kilvington.
Jack Campbell-Manly, Year 12, and Maya Wimalasundera, Year 11, shined as Troy and Gabriella, while Avah Quinn, Year 11, was a definite standout as Sharpay!
Congratulations to the rest of the cast on their hard work, and I can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
A special thank you to Fletchers Real Estate for their support as a sponsor of High School Musical.
Kilvonian Alumni Choir at the Concerto Concert
After weeks of practice, the Kilvonian Alumni Choir took part in the Kilvington Concerto Concert at the Hawthorn Arts Centre on 19 June for an evening of musical mastery.
Expertly guided by notable musician, Mr David Ashton Smith OAM, the choir delighted guests with an enchanting performance of 'Hallelujah' (L. Cohen). They also joined with current students in the combined choirs to deliver a magnificent performance of 'Nella Fantasia' (E.Morricone, Lyr. C. Ferrau, rr. A Snyder) before the gripping finale of 'The Parting Glass' (Traditional, arr. D. Wynkoop).
Ellie Pietsch (Class of 1999) who performed on the night was thrilled to be part of such an esteemed event where past students could connect with each other and the School.
She said, “We’ve had such fun rehearsing and reconnecting each week in the lead up to the Concerto Concert. On the night there was a wonderful sense of camaraderie and real joy as we performed and enjoyed the amazing talents of current students.
I’ve loved being part of the Alumni Choir and encourage all Kilvonians to join in for fun and friendship and to appreciate the joy of singing.”
