Dear Kilvonians
Congratulations Kilvington on the successful opening of new HIVE building, the new home of our Science and Technology faculties and the Roberta McKie library. The HIVE stands for Harmony, Innovation, Vision and Excellence, which represent the key aspirational attributes of the Kilvington community.
Two floors within The HIVE were dedicated to eminent alumnus, Professor Jayashri Kulkarni AM and former Principal Mr Jon Charlton. Professor Kulkarni is the former Chair of the Kilvington Board who was a key sponsor of the project, championing its successful development from planning through to delivery. Mr Charlton, as we all know, was our longstanding Principal, who cultivated a strong working relationship with all our stakeholders. The strong leadership from Professor Kulkarni and Mr Charlton navigated the School through tough times to ensure the School continued to thrive.
The HIVE was officially opened by David Southwick MP and brought back many prominent figures, including former Principal Di Fleming AM who introduced laptops into Kilvington’s curriculum and Dr Greg Wilmoth who introduced the robotics program. Both were cutting edge decisions at the time and opened many doors for so many.
I encourage you to visit The HIVE and experience the facilities, which is possible through attending a reunion, the all-peer Kilvonian Konnections event or via a school tour. Thank you to all the generous donors who contributed to help the building come to life.
Following the success of Kilvonians joining the school choir at Centenary Concert last year, we are thrilled that Kilvonians now have their own choir! For nine weeks in Term 2, participants met each Monday evening to sing a variety of songs ranging from 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen to Mozart’s 'Ave Verum'.
The choir performed at the Concerto Concert last term at the Hawthorn Town Hall, led by an industry legend, David Ashton-Smith OAM. David makes each session fun and creative and keeps everyone on their toes. It’s been so special to meet many other Alumni and to create beautiful music together. This would not have been successful without the support of the School, and we are pleased to announce that this initiative will continue to run for the remainder of the year.
The Alumni Committee is busily working to create several other initiatives that foster connections within the Kilvonian community, and I encourage you so stay connected via the newsletter and to reach out and engage with us via the social media pages, or via email, if you want to get involved.
We are currently finalising the line-up for the all-peer Kilvonian Konnections event on Thursday 24 October 2024 - save the date in your diaries. It’s going to be a great opportunity for us to connect, reminisce and build our community. We would love to see as many of you there as possible.
