Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Parents,

Just a reminder that we have our camp coming up in week 6. Please ensure you have completed the permission form for your child as well as any medical and dietary information.

Here's a recap of what we covered in each subject:

Mathematics:

This week students continued to learn  how to add fractions, how to multiply them through repeated addition, and how to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages. They participated in two more olympic style mathematics games and had the opportunity to create a game of their own to share with parents. These games are designed to showcase the skills and knowledge that students have developed around fractions.  Parents are encouraged to attend one session on any of the days listed below.

English:

Students continued to read "Once" by Morris Gleitzman. It is a compelling novel that follows the journey of Felix, a young Jewish boy in Nazi-occupied Poland, as he searches for his parents. Through Felix's eyes, the story portrays the horrors of war while highlighting the resilience and hope of a child's spirit. Students continued to work on their information report on Poland where they drafted and edited the third body paragraph.

How can you support this at home?

  • Encourage your child to complete the homework task that is related to the book ‘Once’.

Religious Education:

This week students continued to learn about the Sacrament of the Eucharist and its connection with the Last Supper. They also learnt about the life of Mary McKillop as they celebrated her feast day.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR:

Students continued to discuss gender norms this week with our main focus being on human rights. The students were split into groups and were provided with fact cards related to various conventions on human rights made by the United Nations between 1948 and 2008. Each group had an opportunity to discuss what they had learned with the class and the impact that these conventions have had on society.
