NAIDOC Week Celebrations in Year 1
In Year 1, our students have been learning about the importance of NAIDOC Week. This special week celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. During our discussions, we focused on themes like compassion, respect, and resilience. We talked about how showing kindness and understanding towards others, respecting different cultures, and being strong in the face of challenges are all important values.
We read the beautiful picture storybook "The Art in Country" by Bronwyn Bancroft. Bronwyn Bancroft is a proud Bundjalung woman and a talented artist and author. She creates stunning artwork that uses bright colours and intricate patterns to tell stories about her culture and the Australian landscape.
Bronwyn's artwork is full of vivid colours and graphic shapes that capture the beauty of nature and the richness of Aboriginal culture. The Year 1 students were inspired by these vibrant colours and unique shapes to create their own pictures. They used the colours and patterns they saw in Bronwyn's work to make their own beautiful artworks, showing their creativity and appreciation for the stories and traditions shared during NAIDOC Week.
We are so proud of our Year 1 students for their thoughtful participation and the wonderful artwork they have created!
