From the Principal

Class Team

Dear MRC Community,

We have enjoyed a smooth return to school despite the increasingly wet weather and cool temperatures. Because of this, students should continue to wear full Winter uniform.

We have had an action-packed first few weeks at the College, including a number of incursions and excursions detailed in the subsequent pages.

Students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 will have their NAPLAN results sent home in the next few weeks. Staff will be involved in Professional Development to unpack the data and understand its implications for their students.

Last term, the Early Years library was lucky enough to receive a class set of books written by one of our Casual Relief Teachers, Rena Gleeson, called "Terry Tram and Mates". The story is about travelling on Tram Route 86 in Melbourne. Students have enjoyed reading the story. We thank Rena for her thoughtful donation.

With the Olympic Games commencing last Friday, students in Prep to 6 participated in a mini-Olympics. Students were able to wear their house colors and were really excited about the day.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024.All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.Last year we used the survey results to improve our curriculum and student wellbeing programs, as well as further enhancing our facilities.

Please speak to your child’s mentor teacher if you would like more information.

Canteen ordering

Bocca Foods, who runs our canteen has also asked to remind Parents and Carers to use the online lunch ordering system as a priority rather than putting money in paper bags for our students in Prep-6. This system ensures that students when ordering are getting up to date information related to available food. Paper lunch orders should only be used as a last resort if possible please. Students in Prep to 4 should not be bringing money to buy lunch rather than placing an online order.

To set up an online account complete each simple step as follows:

  • Go to:  www.boccafoods.com.au
  • Select 'REGISTER NOW' on the home page.
  • Add your name, email and create a password.  Read and agree to the terms and conditions then click 'REGISTER'.

Course Counselling and Subject Selection

In other news, with assistance from their Mentor Teachers, students from Years 9 to 11 have now finalised their course selections for 2025. Well done to all staff involved in this complex process, with particular thanks to the Pathways and Operations Teams.

Finally, this Thursday, 8th August is a Pupil Free Day. All students are not required to attend school.

Have a safe weekend and stay warm,
