Year 3 - Middle Unit

Welcome to Term 2! This term is proving to be very busy, full of learning experiences and out of school activities. A few of the activities this term will include taking part in the 5 day Aqua Aware program, a 3-day camp at Camp Adekate as well as the Hanging Rock Cross country (for selected students).
ANZAC Day Activities
This week, our literacy program focused on ANZAC day, its origins and why it is important to commemorate on the 25th of April each year. Students studied two mentor texts based on specific battles Australians fought in during World War 1. Midnight is a picture story book based on the bond between a member of the Light Horse Brigade and his horse named Midnight that fought in the battle of Beersheba. The Lone Pine is a picture story book that follows the true story of how a pinecone was sent back from Gallipoli, the seeds cultivated, and the trees planted (one of which is located at the War Memorial in Canberra). This culminated in students visiting WPS’s very own Gallipoli Pine, which is located in the new Memorial Garden.
Camp News
At the end of last term, students were sent home with a ‘Confidential Information’ camp form. This is an important document as it allows parents to let us know of any information such as allergies/intolerances/diets (vegetarian, vegan etc.) that they would like us to pass onto camp. If parents could endeavour to have this document back to their classroom teacher by Monday 28th of April, this will allow teachers to communicate this information to Camp Adekate. Thank you to all the parents that put forward their name to volunteer at camp. Unfortunately, we couldn't accommodate everyone, those that offered their assistance have been contacted via email to inform them if they have been successful.
