Year 5/6 Gala Sports Day

Gala Sports Day Report
by Caleb and Maya - Year Six students
The sun was shining on the dewy grass on Friday 28th of March. The Highvale players of all sports boarded the bus like soldiers, ready for their games. It was a great day to be playing these sports: Tee-Ball, Cricket, Volley Stars, Kickball and Hotshot Tennis. As we pulled up at Jells Park, the other schools were ready to face us. It was a lot of fun and Highvale did very well.
Tee-Ball by Maya
As our Tee-Ball team walked onto the green soft grass we were ready to face Holy Family Primary School first. We were eager to win all four matches. We won Rock Paper Scissor Shoot and chose to field. At the end of our first match, we won! 8-4 home runs. We won by four runs. Next, we played against The Knox School. We were a bit more relaxed because we had already played one game, but we were still a bit uncertain if we would win this match. In the end we won again! After that we walked a bit since we had to move to a different Tee-Ball area and it was a bit far away. Then we were ready to play Mount Waverly Heights. We won again! Three times in a row! After we were extremely tired but we still had our last match was against Mount Waverly North. But sadly, we lost. In the end there was some great hits by Ben, Warren, Aaron, Ruth, Maya and Makayla and there was some great fielding by Matthew, Niki, Livia, Aarna, Renita, Eugene and Isabella.
Cricket by Caleb
We were hyped and ready for the game ahead, against Holy Family Primary School. We played well, getting into our groove and getting used to the rules and boundaries. Unfortunately, we lost the first game, but that didn’t dampen our spirits; instead, it encouraged us to work harder. In the next game, we played the Knox School, and we won 151-52—by 99 runs! Great job Highvale! We lost the next game, sadly, but the last game was super close against Mount Waverley North Primary School. We lost SUPER narrowly, 116-112—just 4 runs away! There was great batting by Almeer, Kurtis, Caleb, Hrnav, and Charles, and some spectacular fielding and bowling by Kurtis, Almeer, Lucas, Johnny and Jonathan. Josh achieved THREE amazing catches in a row!
Tennis by Grace
We marched out onto the tennis courts, and set up our nets for the games ahead. Our first game was against Holy Family, and it was a great victory, in both singles and doubles. We won by a mile! The next game was against the Knox School and they were extremely competitive. We still managed to win but it was a little tougher. Great job Highvale! Next was Mount Waverley Heights. They were very late to their matches so we had to wait for so long! Finally, they arrived and we got on with our match. They did not show any teamwork or sportsmanship, so they were unpleasant to play against, but we still won, now three times in a row. Next we had a short break for lunch and we were hyped and ready for the next game against Mount Waverley North PS. We only got to play singles, due to the delay from MWHPS. We still won, which means we won all four rounds. There was some great playing from everyone in the team.
Volleystars by Diya
Our Highvale Volleystars team trooped on to the court. Holy Family PS was our first adversary—we played well but we lost, unfortunately. We also lost the next two games against other schools, sadly, but we went down fighting. But we won the last game by a lot against Mount Waverley North, a school with great sports people. We had so much fun and there was great playing from Emma, Sham, Rebecca, Elkan, Diya, Vaibhavi, and all the Grade 5’s. Better luck next time Highvale!
Thank you everyone!
