A message from Tami -Jo

Happy Eid to all our families who have been celebrating this week. We hope that you have had a wonderful time with family and friends.

As the term comes to a close, we want to acknowledge a wonderful term.

Our students have worked hard as have our staff. New school wide routines have been introduced to support the expectations across the school for all the children whilst the staff always continue to support many individual children on a number of levels around their learning, social development, play and safety.

There have been so many events, sporting competitions, excursions and guest speakers this term. I think we are all ready for a holiday.

We hope that you take care during the break; spend lots of quality time together and remember that the children do not need to be occupied all the time and that having time when they have to occupy themselves is both a good idea and practice.

For those families celebrating Easter on the holidays, we hope that you receive lots of lovely Easter eggs and that there are many opportunities for families to spend time together.

Colour Run

We raised $16285.25 with the Colour Run. There will be funds absorbed by the company to pay for materials and prizes for the students which means that there will be about $10 000 available for our bike shed which is just amazing!

The top 5 fundraisers were:

Sebastian Casa 1F -$856

Leo Miraglia 1I- $630

Kiaan Pathania 2H- $595

Jacob Madaroski 4E- $540

Muhammad Salaar 2B- $500

We are so grateful for their individual contributions; without them, we would not have had the tally we did.

The class who raised the most money was 1F. The class in the P-2 sub-school who had the most fundraisers was 2D and the class in the Years 3-6 sub-school that had the most fundraisers was 5E. As a result, these 3 classes will get to slime TJ, Jess and Mal this Friday, the last day of term.

We cannot thank those who contributed enough for all their hard work. We appreciate it so very much.

Swimming Carnivals

This week at the Years 3-6 assembly; those students who had represented the school in the Primary District and Divisional swimming carnivals were celebrated. So many successes. Please see our sports reports over the term for more information about individual performances for those results.

On Tuesday this week, we had four students; Keith (6G), Joziah (6D), Kevan (6E) and Jasper (5D) represent our school at the Primary Western Metro Region Swimming Carnival in Geelong. This was a competition that involved schools from Western Melbourne to the Macedon Ranges as well as all Geelong and Bellarine schools. The four students were exceptional and produced outstanding results. Keith won the 12/13 year Boys Breaststroke event and Joziah won the 11 year Boys Freestyle and Butterfly events. Both Keith & Joziah now progress to the State Swimming Carnival on May 1st. The four students were also involved in the Medley relay race where they finished 4th. A big congratulations to all four students for their efforts at the carnival.

In the Secondary competition, Amaera 7E, Hugo 7F nd Christian 8B all qualified for the district swimming competition and will all go on to represent the school in the Western Region Swimming Carnival in Geelong this week.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN was a very busy time for us; there were multiple tests happening in different spaces, adjustments made for specific children and follow up for those who may have arrived late or been absent. The staff are to be congratulated on the way they prepared the students for the tests and supported them throughout the process. We look forward to receiving our results late next term so it can inform us about what we are doing well with and what we need to improve. It will also support teachers to better plan for students.

Wyndham Tech Excursions

Wyndham Tech School (WTS) is one of the 10 tech schools established by DET across Victoria. It provides students across government schools with amazing opportunities to engage with technology that they otherwise would not encounter. 2025 has marked the third year in a row where Dohertys Creek College students have headed to WTS for a series of learning sessions.

This year, our Year 8+9 students are engaging in an innovative 3-part program at WTS. They rotate in groups between Game Development, F1 in Schools and Systems Engineering. Whether they’ve been in the podcast studio or racing air-powered miniature cars, our students have learned more about their skills and interests, and literally had a blast!

Harmony Day

March 21st was Harmony Day. I hope you have been able to see our posts on Facebook to see some of the glorious national dress costumes worn throughout the day. It was lovely to see the pride our students had around sharing this with their peers and the wider school. Whilst, it is only one day, we hope that the students can continue to share and learn throughout the year.

Celebration of Learning

Thank you to all our families who visited for our Celebrations of Learning; I cannot emphasise enough how much students enjoy having their families in so they can showcase their work. Please prioritise this time each term as it is a way that we can work together to support your children.

Respectful Interactions with Staff

When parents treat teachers and administrative staff with respect, it fosters a positive and collaborative environment that ultimately benefits students. By recognizing that everyone—parents, educators, and school staff—is working toward the same goal of helping children succeed, we create a strong support system where communication thrives, challenges are addressed constructively, and students feel more secure and motivated. Mutual respect strengthens trust, enhances teamwork, and sets a great example for children on how to engage with others in a cooperative and appreciative manner. Please be aware that just like you, our teachers and support staff have the right to be safe and treated respectfully in their workplace too.

Have a great break everyone and we look forward to seeing you all return on Wednesday 23rd April. It is a short week with only two days for students as there is a public holiday on Friday 25th for ANZAC Day.
