Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is well underway for students in 2025. For those parents who are new to the school and perhaps the state, the Premier's Reading Challenge is an initiative designed to encourage students to engage with reading and develop a lifelong love of literature. It invites students from Kindergarten to Year 9 to read a set number of books each year, focusing on a diverse range of genres and authors.
Parents can support their children by helping them select books that interest them, discussing the stories, and celebrating their achievements as they complete the challenge. Participation not only enhances literacy skills but also promotes a sense of accomplishment and encourages a shared family experience around reading.
For more details, parents can visit the official Premier's Reading Challenge website, which provides resources and booklists to assist in the challenge. Please see the link below for instructions on setting up and accessing your account:
For parents with students in Kindergarten, Year 1, or Year 2, you don't need to worry about registration. We will register your child's reading right here in the library. Starting next week, Mr. Matthews will read books from the Premier's Reading Challenge list with students and keep track of what they read on their behalf.
Debating Club 2025
The Debating Club for Year 5 and 6 students officially kicked off this year. As always, there was a huge amount of interest from the student body, with almost 100 students attending the signup session in Week 6. We have now created our shortlist with 40 students joining the ranks of those who have participated in the Premier's Debating Challenge. These students will take part in four rounds of debating against several other schools in the area, discussing topics ranging from school life to social media. We will keep you updated here in the newsletter, so keep an eye on Mr. Jones's section, the Deputy Principal's section, or right here in the library news for updates on the team's progress.
I would also like to thank Ms. Malm for joining our ranks and assisting Mr. Matthews with running the Debating Club. Ms. Malm has a keen interest in sports and has already proven herself to be a valuable addition to the team. Please join me in welcoming and thanking Ms. Malm for her contributions.
The Debating Club will meet each Wednesday in the library, after eating time. In the case of wet weather, the Debating Club will be automatically cancelled, as Mr. Matthews and Ms. Malm will have wet weather responsibilities. If your child has made it into the club, please help them and us by encouraging them to watch or listen to the news. It’s important for students to consume media from trusted sources and to learn to 'Stop, Think, and Check' before believing everything they see online. This is a crucial lesson to teach at primary school, especially before they get a smartphone. The Squiz Kids and Behind The News are great resources for kids to learn about the news from a reliable source.
From all of us here in the library, have a great week and keep reading those books!
Regards,
The Library Team
