Pi Day Celebrations – A Thrilling House Assembly Competition! 🥧✨
March 14th is a special day for mathematicians and enthusiasts worldwide—Pi Day! To mark the occasion, we hosted an exhilarating House assembly competition on Friday, March 28, where students put their memory skills to the test by recalling as many digits of Pi as possible in 2 minutes.
The energy in the room was electric as students showcased their dedication and love for mathematics. A standout moment came from Lloyd (Year 5), who astounded everyone by reciting an incredible 470 decimal places of Pi in just two minutes! His extraordinary memory and mathematical prowess left the audience in awe.
But the surprises didn’t end there! The assembly also featured an unsuspecting teacher round—with all teachers’ names placed in a hat and one randomly selected to take on the challenge. The tension was high when Dr. Hillier’s name was drawn. However, in true professional style, she delivered an impressive 20 decimal places of Pi on the spot! A truly remarkable feat under pressure.
🏆 Congratulations to Orrock House for emerging as the overall winners!
A huge thank you to the TPHS Tech Team, Gracie, and Max for their incredible work behind the scenes. Their efforts, along with vibrant music, a disco ball, and dynamic lighting, made the event even more spectacular.
It was a memorable and phenomenal celebration of mathematics—we can’t wait for next year’s competition!
