Learning in Grade 1!

Over the last couple of weeks, the Year Ones have been involved in so many wonderful experiences.

In Math, we have explored patterns with shape and measurement in length, mass and capacity through hands-on experiences. We had lots of opportunities to practise the language of longer, shorter, same, heavier, lighter, full, empty, more capacity and less capacity. One of our favourites was to compare the capacity of containers in the sandpit!

We have also been learning about character strengths in Literacy through our unit,

‘The Best Me I Can Be’. We have read about teamwork, honesty, bravery and perseverance. Whilst reading, we have extracted new words and added these to our vocabulary wall ready to transfer into our writing. Words like, ‘marvellous’, ‘extraordinary’ and ‘eager’.

During Wellbeing Week, we revisisted character strengths and chose the best ones that reflect who we are. These can be found in the corridors of the main building. Please come by and check it out!

Lastly, we have been busy with extra curricular activities such as developing our cricket skills with SENA. The final session had us test out all of our bowling, batting and catching skills in lots of mini matches!

During Harmony Day, we celebrated our different cultures and reflected on how we are all different but we all belong at Great Ryrie.

During Wellbeing week, we allowed ourselves time to rest, reflect and meditate as well as celebrate our personal strengths. We also had our school disco with lots of face paint, dancing, games and prizes. It was so much fun dancing and singing with friends.

To celebrate our new Totem poles, last Tuesday, we had Indigenous Outreach Project come and teach us some awesome dance moves with attitude. Who knew that our moves were so good that we won the dance off against our teachers!

Thursday, we had our Cross Country race. Learning about perseverance really helped us to go out and try our best! Everyone did an amazing job.

Lastly, we were spoilt with an easter egg hunt! What wonderful ways to celebrate the ending of term 1!

Next term, we are looking forward to exploring our neighbourhood and integrating many aspects of this within our Literacy and Maths.

Have a safe and restful break and look forward to you all at the beginning of Term 2!
