It's a Wrap

Dear Families,

As we wrap up another fantastic term at GRPS, we want to take a moment to thank you for your ongoing support.

It has been a busy and exciting time, filled with learning, exploration, and plenty of fun!

From Harmony Day, Indonesian Cultural Day, Cross Country, Cyber Safety Night, Gala Days, Spalding Information Evening, the School Disco, the announcement of our Shrek cast, excursions, and incursions, our students and parents have had so many opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. The fun never stops at GRPS.

(Please look at the Year Level Learning Pages in this edition of the Grapevine for more information and Photographs)

Totem Poles "No shame, be proud, respect."

A special highlight this term was the installation of our First Nation-themed totem poles,

which we celebrated with an energetic visit from the IOP Hip Hop Crew.

This dynamic group, known as Indigenous Outreach Projects (IOP), brought their passion for music and dance to engage our students in a health and wellbeing program.Students enjoyed First Nation dances, Torres Strait Islander music, and hip-hop choreography, all while embracing the IOP crew’s motto:

"No shame, be proud, respect."

Thank you to Callum Warren-Smith for organisng this wonderful event and Melissa Roberts for her persistance with the Totem Pole Project

Keep an eye out for a video capturing this fantastic event. We can’t wait to share it with you.

And more learning....

We also hosted a Digital Safety and Wellbeing Workshop, and we appreciate the parents and carers who attended. Your feedback was very positive, and we hope to continue offering valuable sessions to support our school community.

Our Parliament Incursion gave students real-world insight into government and democracy, allowing them to engage with how decisions are made in our country.

We also celebrated student learning through our expos, where students proudly shared their work with family and friends.

This term also included Wellbeing Week, where we focused on health, happiness, and connection within our school community. The students had a fantastic time at the School Disco, dancing with friends and enjoying a sausage and a zooper dooper.

Thank you to everyone who donated chocolate for our Easter Raffle. Your generosity made it a huge success.

And of course, football season is in full swing. Richmond started off so confidently, but things aren’t looking quite as promising now… we’ll see how the season unfolds.

Celebration of Respectful, Resposible Learners

To finish on a particularly positive note, we were delighted to receive a letter from a member of the community who encountered our Year 4 students during their visit to the Melbourne Flower & Garden Show.

We wanted to share it with you:

Hello,

Yesterday I was at the Melbourne Flower and Garden Show. I live in Hawthorn in Melbourne.

I had the pleasure of seeing a group of students from your school on a few occasions during the day. Once, in a large group when they arrived and were eating lunch (?). Again, in a couple of small groups and then again at the end of the day at Parliament Station.

I wanted you to pass on to the students and their teachers how impressed I was by their fantastic behaviour every time I saw them. They were respectful of their teachers and engaged when exploring the show. I then happened to see them again at the station where the teachers managed a large group in a safe and respectful manner. The attitude of the students was really impressive, especially in such a large group on a crowded platform.

Bravo to both students and teachers!

We are so proud of our students and the way they represent GRPS beyond the school grounds. Their respect, enthusiasm, and engagement were noticed and appreciated.

Farewell Grace

I just want to take a moment to say a very special thank you to someone who has meant so much to our school community, Grace our wonderful Multicultural Aide.

As Grace prepares to move overseas to be with her husband, we are grateful for everything she has brought to Great Ryrie.

From the very beginning, Grace has  shown such genuine care and dedication to our EAL students and their families. Grace has helped build trust, create understanding, and make people feel seen, heard, and valued.

We’ll miss you Grace, but we’re also so excited for this next chapter in your life.

Year Level Learning Pages in the Newsletter

As we head into a  break, we encourage you to check out the Learning Pages for each class. You might even spot your child enjoying one of these wonderful experiences.

Thank you for being part of our GRPS community. We wish you all a restful and enjoyable Easter Holiday and look forward to another exciting term ahead.

Warm regards,

The GRPS Team, & Karen and Melissa
