I can't believe we are almost at the end of week 3, term 4 already!
It has been great to see some sunshine and warmer weather. Students are reminded that sunscreen is available outside the office each day. I encourage all students to practice sun safety by wearing a hat, sunscreen and staying in the shade where possible.
As Shannon has mentioned previously, WHSC have received funding from the Senior Secondary Pathways reform to establish a school café, the funding covers the purchase of the café equipment including the industrial coffee machine!
We are extremely excited by the opportunity of establishing the café which will allow us to provide students with the opportunity to develop and build their skills in a wide range of areas not only in barista training, but customer service, communication and safe food handling skills. The café will enable students to apply and enhance their skills through regular practice.
Our vision for the café is to increase our connections with not only the school community but wider Ballarat East community also.
Throughout this term, I will be busily working on our project plan to ensure that we are able to implement the project in a timely manner. At this stage we aim to host an opening of the café midway through 2025! How exciting!
Last week we celebrated nutrition week, with a variety of activities across the week promoting healthy lifestyles. We enjoyed seeing so many staff and students engage in Zumba, riding the smoothie bike and enjoying a healthy morning tea prepared by the VM students.
As the weather improves, I ask our community to consider the small changes that they are able to implement to make healthier choices eg: walking to the shop, cutting that extra coffee and replacing with water or enjoying some of the yummy summer fruits.
Tonight, we come together for year 12 graduation, I look forward to celebrating their journey through secondary education. I wish all year 12s the very best on whatever comes next for them!
